Meghan Markle was one of Vice President Kamala Harris’ supporters during the 2020 presidential election.

After the Duchess of Sussex and her husband, Prince Harry, quit the royal family and returned to the US in 2020, Markle sat down with Gloria Steinem and discussed the topic of women in politics — particularly Harris, who was on the presidential ticket alongside Joe Biden for vice president at that time.

“The heart of the Democratic Party has been Black women,” Steinem, 90, said. “And now there is a potential vice president who is Black, and that’s exciting.”

The “Suits” alum, 42, replied, saying she was “excited” to see Harris — who is of Jamaican and Indian descent — included on the ballot.

“I’m so excited to see that kind of representation,” Markle said.

“You know, for me, being biracial, growing up, whether it was a doll or a person in office, you need to see someone who looks like you in some capacity,” she added.

“As many of us believe, you can only be what you can see. And in the absence of that, how can you aspire to something greater than what you see in your own world? I think maybe now we’re starting to break-through in a different way.”

Harris, 59, has also spoken out in support of Markle in the past.

In 2019, she retweeted a video of the mom of two famously explaining how the press negatively affected her mental health during her pregnancy with her first child, Archie.

“This is incredibly important. We must remember that it’s a sign of strength to show emotion,” the former prosecutor wrote.

“Meghan, we are with you.”

And in June 2020, Harris shared the speech Markle virtually gave to her high school’s graduating class, in which she discussed the deaths of many Black Americans at the hands of police.

Harris wrote, “‘The only wrong thing to say is to say nothing.’ Thank you, Meghan, for this powerful statement.”

Now that Harris will most likely take on Donald Trump in the 2024 presidential election, several stars have endorsed her, including Ariana Grande, George Clooney, Beyoncé and more.
