Beckinsale, 50, then posted a video tagging Spears, 42, and other stars around their age who have faced online bullying, including Jameela Jamil, Susan Sarandon, Rose McGowan, Selma Blair and Demi Moore.
“It is almost always the women who have walked through fires that we can’t fathom how hard that must be, who are the ones who are the first to reach out and see if another person is doing ok,” she wrote.
“And it is so often those who’ve received fairly brutal treatment that will actually reach out to somebody in a way easier position to check if they’re ok.”
The actress said the “ecosystem” of Hollywood used to depend on “keeping women separate” so they could not discuss challenges in the industry like pay inequality and abuse.
“I’m here for people being supportive of each other, people checking on each other, and I will say, like I just have, and I’m going to stop soon, that it is usually the people who have been through s–t that you just cannot fathom that are the most sensitive and the most generous,” she concluded.
A day prior, Spears showed her support for Beckinsale after the “Serendipity” star hit back at rude online comments about how she should act more her age.
“Have you guys ever seen the movie Serendipity with Kate Beckinsale??? Well let me tell you … if you haven’t you definitely should !!!” the “Toxic” singer wrote in an Instagram post Wednesday.
Spears said she adores the English star, who often posts photos of herself with a big bow in her hair.
“I realized how incredibly cruel people were talking about her IG saying she needs more age appropriate content .. she’s in her fifties and I thought it was pretty badass how she responded with a mini bow in her hair looking literally 4 years old,” the Grammy winner wrote.
Spears, who often posts nude photos and dancing videos to her Instagram, noted that she receives the same kind of criticism from online trolls.
“What are you gonna do to help someone out and bring their dreams to life besides being like me and Kate’s haters saying we’re too old or don’t have appropriate content???” she questioned.
The “Gimme More” singer then went on to drag Ozzy Osbourne for making fun of her dance videos, writing, “I’m gonna do a photoshoot with Kate and tell the Osbourne family who is the most boring family known to mankind to kindly f–k off !!!”
