Brian Eule has been named the new managing director of “Frontline,” the award-winning PBS documentary series produced by Boston public broadcaster GBH. He replaces Janice Hui, who exited her post as managing director for “Frontline” to serve as COO of ITVS.
At “Frontline,” Eule will oversee business operations and strategic planning and report to “Frontline” editor-in-chief and executive producer Raney Aronson-Rath.
“Brian’s extensive background in philanthropy and communications — married with his appreciation for the essential role journalism plays in our democracy — makes him the perfect person to lead ‘Frontline’s’ business team and strategic efforts,” Aronson-Rath said in a statement on Wednesday, announcing Eule’s appointment. “We are so pleased to welcome Brian to ‘Frontline’ and look forward to working with him come September.”

Eule joins “Frontline” from the Heising-Simons Foundation, where he served as the director of journalism and communications for amost a decade. As member of Heising-Simons’ leadership team and a corporate officer there, he created and directed its journalism grantmaking initiative, including portfolio of grants meant to support investigative journalism and underrepresented voices in mass media.
Eule’s credits include created and overseeing the American Mosaic Journalism Prize, in which two freelance journalists are awarded $100,000 annually “for excellence in long-form, narrative, or deep reporting on stories about underrepresented and/or misrepresented groups in the present American landscape.”
