This princess is a shining star.
Kate Middleton has always added thoughtful details to her outfits over the years, and World Mental Health Day was no exception, with the royal stepping out with Prince William in Birmingham, England in a meaningful blazer and earrings.
The Princess of Wales, 41, looked sunny in a symbolic yellow blazer from L.K. Bennett with black trousers as she participated in the #HelloYellow movement, with people invited to wear the bright color Tuesday in honor of young people’s mental health.
Her black-and-yellow look held another special meaning, as the colors are featured in the logos of Beyond and Young Minds UK, the charities attending the youth mental health forum the royal couple hosted.
This isn’t the first time the mom of three has supported mental health initiatives with the colorful blazer; the Princess of Wales first wore the jacket with white trousers and her favorite Veja Esplar sneakers ($150) for a different Mental Health Awareness Week event in May.
This time around, Middleton added a solid black top and wide-legged black trousers to the outfit, accessorizing with a gold star-shaped pair of earrings by Ear Sass ($32) that she received at a rugby match in June.
Maidenhead Rugby Club coach Sarah Renton gifted the earrings to the Princess of Wales after revealing that her 17-year-old daughter, Issy, had died by suicide in April and that the earrings were made by her jeweler cousin, Sophie McGown, in her honor.
“It’s incredible,” McGown tells Pvnew Style, adding that the princess “did say to Sarah that she would wear them and she’s obviously held out until today on such a poignant day as World Mental Health Day.”
“She was so touched by Issy’s story I think being a mother as well. She was just so moved and so saddened by it,” McGown says.
Proceeds from each pair benefit the charity Brave Mind, with the Ear Sass founder telling us that she’s proud to “normalize the conversation” when it comes to mental health and suicide.
The Princess of Wales has also participated in past initiatives to honor mental health through her wardrobe, wearing a bright green dress in May to honor “Wear it Green Day” for Mental Health Awareness Week.
Tuesday’s look marks yet another trouser suit for the Princess of Wales, who has worn a parade of businesslike looks over the past month instead of her usual midi dresses and skirts.
There’s more royal fashion to look forward to this week as Wednesday and Thursday bring more appearances for the Prince and Princess of Wales.
