Collin Gosselin’s 2016 institutionalization has come back to haunt him.
Kate Gosselin and Jon Gosselin’s 20-year-old son revealed in a Tuesday Entertainment Tonight interview that is he “not [in the Marines] any longer” due to his time in a mental health institution.
“I was discharged,” Collin said. “I was towards the end of training, very close to graduating. The paperwork was looked into, and they found out that I was, in fact, in an institution at one point in my life.”

He noted that the U.S. Marine Corps didn’t “need any deeper reason” to let him go.
“Being in an institution, that’s good enough … to discharge me,” the former reality star explained. “It was the fact that I was in an institution and that’s it.”
Collin, who is “working to appeal the decision,” added that he has “very few other wishes in life that would top being a United States Marine.”
In the meantime, the outlet noted that he plans to attend Pennsylvania State University and major in finance.
The “Jon and Kate Plus 8” alum’s update comes one year after Jon’s rep claimed he had cleared an extensive background and mental evaluation for the organization.
The spokesperson also blasted Kate, 49, for alleging Collin was prone to “violent outbursts,” writing that “the government’s full diagnoses clearly reflects the truth.”
At the time, Kate was making headlines for telling People the “troubled young man” physically attacked his family members on a “regular” basis.
Her statements were in support of daughter Madelyn, 23, who accused Collin of “violence and hate speech” via Instagram.
Kate claimed that this alleged behavior resulted in him being “placed in a facility following years of outpatient treatment which proved insufficient for his needs.”
Collin, however, claimed on Tuesday that Kate institutionalized him in order to “protect her reputation.”
He said, “I didn’t know what was going on. I didn’t know where I was going. That was the most scared I’ve probably ever been in my life. … I didn’t even say goodbye [to my siblings].”
Collin, who now lives with Jon, 47, and sister Hannah, reflected on the “hopeless” experience in a November 2022 interview with the outlet, recalling the “dark place” it put him in.
Reps for Kate did not immediately return Pvnew’s request for comment.
