She’s “Legally” Laura.
Reese Witherspoon got into a hilarious squabble with her “Big Little Lies” co-star Nicole Kidman while chatting about her birth name.
In a video for Vanity Fair Wednesday, the two actresses discussed why the “Cruel Intentions” star only refers to their other co-star Laura Dern by her last name.

“I hate how you call her Dern,” Kidman, 56, admitted to Witherspoon, 48, in the sit-down conversation. “It sounds so weird. I’m always like, ‘Laura,’ and you’re like, ‘No, Dern, Dern,’ and I’m like, ‘Why?'”
Witherspoon swiftly reminded the “Practical Magic” actress that she was born with the full name Laura Jeanne Reese Witherspoon. The “Morning Show” star had notably shortened her name to her mother Betty Reese’s maiden name when she began her acting career.
“‘Cause my name is Laura, and her name’s Laura and it’s confusing to me,” Witherspoon explained.
“Oh, that’s right,” Kidman replied, admitting that she “forgot” her co-star’s real name.
But the Australian beauty then shut down Witherspoon’s logic with a laugh, noting, “[Dern] doesn’t even call you Laura, though.”
Witherspoon hilariously responded by joking that she didn’t understand her “point” and didn’t like her “tone.”
“You’re trying to understand something that just makes no sense,” the mom of three said.
Witherspoon, Kidman and Dern, 57, became close friends after starring in the first two seasons of the HBO series, which premiered in 2017, alongside Shailene Woodley and Zoë Kravitz. Meryl Streep joined the ensemble cast in Season 2.
During the intimate sit-down with Witherspoon, the mom of four seemingly confirmed that Season 3 is currently in the works. She shared that the author of the “Big Little Lies” book, Liane Moriarty, is writing source material for another chapter of the beloved series.
“We’re moving fast and furious and Liane is delivering the book. Yeah, and we’re in good shape,” Kidman shared. The “Aquaman” actress then stopped herself from revealing anything more, saying she needed to “shut up.”
“There’s this whole thing that you should never talk about something until you’ve done it,” she said. “Because if you talk about doing it, it’s the dopamine hit of doing it. You feel like you’ve done it. It’s a scientific study.”
Witherspoon chimed in, saying, “I have a rule, it’s called, like, don’t be full of s–t.”
“I don’t want to talk about it until I’m standing in the costume on set. Then I will confirm to you that it’s happening,” the “Legally Blonde” star said.
