Kristen Welker’s family has grown.
The “Meet the Press” correspondent, 47, and her husband, John Hughes, welcomed their second baby via surrogate, a boy named John Zachary Welker Hughes.
Their son was born on Thursday, May 30, weighing seven pounds and measuring almost 20 inches long, the news program announced on air Sunday.

”The ‘Meet the Press’ family officially has a new member,” NBC News Chief White House Correspondent Peter Alexander said on the morning show, which he hosted in Welker’s absence. “Look at the nugget!”
Welker and Hughes’ newborn joins big sister Margot, who Alexander said was “extremely proud” about welcoming her new sibling home.
“Kristen shares her surrogate, who she calls her ‘angel on earth,’ is doing great,” Alexander added.
The couple became first-time parents in June 2021 when they welcomed Margot via surrogate.
“Margot truly is the love of our lives,” Welker wrote in an email to the “Today” show at the time. “Seeing her precious face and looking into her eyes has made every minute of our journey.”
Welker added that she and Hughes, a marketing executive, stayed in a hospital room next to their surrogate’s.
“We stayed in rooms next to each other and visited throughout so that we and little Margot could thank her for bringing Margot into the world,” Welker explained.
Welker and Hughes met through a mutual friend in 2014 and married three years later at The Hyatt at the Bellevue Hotel in Philadelphia, Penn.
