Brian Austin Green admitted that raising his “out and gay and proud” son Kassius was initially a “challenge.”
The actor called conversations with his now-21-year-old a “fascinating” experience during Monday’s episode of the “Frosted Tips with Lance Bass” podcast.
“It has been a challenge,” Green said. “Honestly, it was unknown for me.”
However, he noted, “I think a lot of people are afraid of the unknown, whereas I’m not. To me, it’s intriguing. And I want to learn about it.”
The “Beverly Hills, 90210” star, 50, and his eldest child “would get into these conservations” where Green “really wanted to understand the things that seemed so different … at first” — only to realize that raising an LGBTQIA+ child “isn’t different at all” from bringing up a straight one.
“It’s just your choice of partner,” Green explained. “It doesn’t affect me at all.
“That’s the thing I’m always trying to beat into people now — it does not affect you,” he continued. “Why do you care so much? And why are you trying to somehow bully your feelings and your opinion into something that literally does not affect you at all?”
Lance Bass praised the “Anger Management” alum for being an “open-minded” parent, calling Kassius “lucky.”
The *NSYNC member, 44, gushed, “So many kids out there don’t get that. And even if their parents accept them, there [are] a lot of times when the kid still knows that they still disagree with it.”
Bass came out in 2006 and has been married to Michael Turchin since 2014. The duo share 1-year-old twins named Alexander and Violet.
Kassius, for his part, has been open about his love life via Instagram since 2019.
Green shares Kassius with his ex-fiancé Vanessa Marcil, as well as three children with ex-wife Megan Fox — Noah, 11, Bodhi, 9, and Journey, 7 — and son Zane, 1, with fiancée Sharna Burgess.
Green has butted heads with Marcil, 54, while co-parenting Kassius over the years, describing their “difficult” dynamic in the Sept. 19 episode of his and Burgess’ “Old·ish” podcast.
He accused the “General Hospital” alum of “cutting” him out of Kassius’ life while he recovered from vertigo.
“We ran into roadblocks with Vanessa at literally every turn,” Green said.
He and Burgess, 38, went on to highlight their “great relationship” with Fox as the exes raise their trio “in as healthy [of an] environment as they can be in.”
Green, who finalized his divorce from the actress in 2022, said, “We co-parent really well together. When we need to, we communicate really well, we are open to things, we don’t take things personally.”
