This royal is taking on Wimbledon, ’80s-style.
Kate Middleton stepped out in a Princess Diana-inspired outfit for the second day of the Wimbledon 2023 championships Tuesday, sporting a mint green blazer and white pleated skirt that brought back memories of her late mother-in-law’s bold outfits.
The Princess of Wales, 41 — who usually doesn’t attend a match until later in the tournament — surprised royal fans when she turned up in a sold-out $2,750 Balmain blazer to watch English tennis star Katie Boulter play Australian Daria Saville.
Her blazer featured wide white lapels, just like the dress Princess Diana wore to Trooping the Colour in 1988, and the royal paired the high-end jacket with another Diana style staple in the form of a pleated white midi skirt.
The late princess often wore a long, pleated skirt with a blazer or sweater, and Middleton’s Wimbledon outfit also bears a resemblance to the Catherine Walker look Diana wore to visit a cemetery in Delhi, India, in 1992.
The Princess of Wales teamed her outfit with the white Gianvito Rossi pumps ($775) she often wears, pinning a purple-and-green Wimbledon ribbon to her jacket and sheltering under a Wimbledon umbrella in the club’s colors when a rain shower disrupted the match.
She carried one of her favorite Mulberry top-handle bags for the outing.
Middleton wore her hair down in soft waves, further accessorizing with Shyla London pearl drop earrings ($91) and a gold-and-white cuff bracelet from Sézane that she first wore in 2020.
While the mom of three typically wears a dress to Wimbledon, today marks the second time she’s worn a blazer-and-skirt combo after first experimenting with the look in 2021.
This isn’t the first Diana nod we’ve seen from the Princess of Wales over the years; she’s worn everything from a blue blazer ensemble to a red houndstooth coat that seemed inspired by her late mother-in-law.
Stay tuned for more winning royal tennis styles as Wimbledon continues through July 16.
