While Pete Davidson’s relationship with Kim Kardashian — who he famously smooched during a sketch on “Saturday Night Live” — seems like perfect fodder for the hit comedy show, we hear he’s decided not to take any jabs at the reality star when he hosts the show for the first time in two weeks.
A source tells Pvnew that while Davidson is expected to be “a good sport” about quips about his high-profile love life, he wants to steer clear of Kardashian.
“He’s being a gentleman,” says the source.
We’re told that when the couple — who were first romantically linked in October 2021 — split in August 2022 after nine months of dating, they agreed to just “drop everything” and “move on.”
“That’s why she’s not mentioned in his stand-up,” says the source.
Meanwhile, their romance became decidedly not funny after her ex-husband, Kanye West repeatedly attacked the “King of Staten Island” star on social media, going so far as to release a video for his track “Eazy” that had him kidnapping and burying a cartoon version of Davidson.
West also rapped about “beating Pete Davidson’s ass” and posted a fake New York Times front page with a headline that read, “SKETE DAVIDSON DEAD AT AGE 28.” (“Skete” was the disgraced rapper’s sobriquet for Davidson).
The source added of the comic’s plans for the show, “[He’s respecting the fact] her team is so protective of her image and it was so volatile from Kanye’s side.”
Davidson, who has been open about his issues with mental health, reportedly sought “trauma therapy” following West’s attacks with an insider telling People, “The attention and negativity coming from Kanye and his antics is a trigger for [Pete], and he’s had to seek out help.’
Davidson, who dated Ariana Grande, Kate Beckinsale, Kaia Gerber, and Phoebe Dynevor, also opened up on John Bernthal’s “Real Ones” podcast about having “SNL” make fun of his love life while he worked at the show.
“When your own show [pokes fun at you]. . . Then you’ve gotta walk out and do a sketch next and hit your mark and the show just made fun of you. . And you’re like, ‘I’m a fucking loser, man,’” the “Bodies, Bodies, Bodies,” star said.
Davidson went on to say he felt supported by the cast and that, “nobody ever showed more leeway and grace to me than [‘SNL’ creator] Lorne Michaels, and I owe my life to that guy, but it was fucking confusing cause the nature of entertainment is the nature of this business. At the end of the day, that’s what it is. This was a really difficult thing to do. You feel small. You feel super insecure.”
But another source said they wouldn’t be surprised that, when it comes to show time, a Kardashians gag or two made it in.
“Nothing has been written yet, but know with Pete nothing is off the table,” says another source.
We hear Davidson, who was a cast member on the show from 2014 until 2022 is “nervous” about hosting on May 6.
“Even though it was his home for years, he is still nervous,” says a source. “It’s sweet.”
Davidson and Kardashian kissed during an “Aladdin” themed sketch on the show in October 2021. The started dating shortly after and Davidson got a Jasmine and Aladdin tattoo.
Davidson will appear on the show fresh off attending the Met Gala, which we hear he will be attending solo. He is currently dating Chase Sui Wonders.
Davidson is doing the rounds to promote his new Peacock show “Bupkis,” executive produced by Michaels.
We’re told the show will feature a slew of guest stars including Charlie Day, Al Gore, Bobby Cannavale, John Mulaney, La La Anthony and Davidson’s bestie Machine Gun Kelly.
