Nev Schulman said he is “lucky to be here” after he broke his neck in two places following a terrifying bike accident.
On Saturday, the “Catfish” host took to Instagram to share what happened the day after he went fishing with his family last Sunday.
“Monday was not a day like that. Monday was a day where I learned what ‘before the accident’ really means,” he captioned the post. “And Monday gave weight to just how lucky I was to have Sunday. It’s true what they say – life can change in an instant.”
Schulman, 39, said he “never made it to pick up my son from school on the bike” due to the accident.
“I was alone on impact. Me and the truck. And then I guess the pavement,” he added. “I was alone and unconscious. And then conscious. Maybe I was fine (I wasn’t). Maybe I can still do my long run on Thursday (I couldn’t).”
The “Dancing With the Stars” alum said though he broke his neck in cervical nerves 5 and 6, he is not paralyzed.

“My hands were a question mark there for a minute but the human body is incredible and so are HUMANS,” he shared.
“I’m lucky to be here, alive, standing and hugging my family, projected to make a full recovery. And I’m really starting to understand the meaning of gratitude. For the big and little things before the accident, and now everything moving forward.”
Schulman concluded his post by saying he was “so glad” he went fishing with his family the day before the accident.
He did not give any additional details about the crash.
The MTV star also shared pictures of X-rays of his broken and “fixed” neck and videos of him in the hospital.
In one of the clips, Schulman, who was wearing a neck brace and a hospital gown, slowly stood up from his hospital bed with the assistance of two nurses.
Schulman’s wife, Laura Perlongo, and their three children, Cleo, 7, Beau, 5, and Cy, 2, were in the hospital with him to support him as he recovered after surgery.
