Shannen Doherty praised frenemy and onscreen sister Alyssa Milano for her work on “Charmed” before she died of cancer.
Prior to her passing, the “Beverly Hills, 90210” alum — who portrayed Prue Halliwell in the series — recorded an episode of “The House of Halliwell” podcast with co-star Holly Marie Combs, who played Piper Halliwell.
During the episode released Tuesday, Doherty reflected on actress Lori Rom filming an unaired pilot as the third Halliwell sister, Phoebe, before the role was ultimately given to Milano.

“Lori and Alyssa are very, very, very different people. So, Lori’s performance was different than Alyssa’s. Lori was a lot like Holly and I in the sense of [being] very grounded in drama,” she explained on the podcast.
“The presentation was much more serious, and it was way darker, which was my style. So, I loved the presentation, and I thought everybody was great.”
Doherty continued, “When Alyssa came in, it provided a levity that I think the show ended up needing. She came in and she did a great job. And yeah, just brought a slightly different flavor to the show.”
The kind words come months after Combs, 50, claimed on Doherty’s “Let’s Be Clear” podcast in December that Milano got the late actress fired from the WB show.
“We were told [by Alyssa] it’s her or [Shannen] and Alyssa has threatened to sue us for a hostile workplace environment,” the “Pretty Little Liars” alum recalled producer Jonathan Levin telling her about Doherty’s exit.
When Doherty left the show after Season 3, she was replaced by Rose McGowan, who played the Halliwells’ long-lost half-sister, Paige Matthews.
On Sunday, Milano, 51, shared her condolences after Doherty’s death, telling Pvnew, “It’s no secret that Shannen and I had a complicated relationship, but at its core was someone I deeply respected and was in awe of.
“She was a talented actress, beloved by many, and the world is less without her. My condolences to all who loved her.”
Doherty died on July 13 at the age of 53 after a years-long battle with cancer.
