“When I was first diagnosed with breast cancer I remembered how bravely she let the world into her journey and reached out to her,” Munn recalled on her Story, admitting she “couldn’t comprehend” their ensuing friendship because “Beverly Hills, 90210” had once been “everything” to her.
“We bonded through a shared battle and a desire to help other women,” she continued before revealing the last text she received from Doherty.
“Just a couple of months ago, she asked how I was doing and if she could do anything for me,” Munn wrote. “True to form, Shannen was offering me her support even though she was in the final stage of fighting this horrific disease.”
The former “Daily Show” correspondent concluded, “Cancer is really f—king scary, and Shannen faced it with such dignity, strength and grace.
“Sending all my love to her mother who was her best friend, hero and champion every step of the way. Fly so high my friend.”
News broke of Doherty’s death on Sunday after a nearly decade-long cancer battle, with many of the star’s former co-stars honoring her life on social media.

Tori Spelling posted multiple broken heart emojis, while Jennie Garth wrote that she is “still processing [her] tremendous grief.”
Rose McGown declared she “couldn’t stop crying” over her “Charmed” sister — and Alyssa Milano acknowledged their “complicated relationship” in her own statement.
Doherty was first diagnosed with cancer in 2015, and the disease returned in 2019 following a brief remission.
When Munn received her own diagnosis in 2023, she kept her health struggles out of the public eye until her recovery.
Since sharing her story in March, the “Predator” star has descrived her cancer battle in multiple interviews, from her reaction to her mastectomy scars to her decision to have a full hysterectomy.
Munn is the mother of 2-year-old son Malcolm, who was reportedly present at her and John Mulaney’s intimate wedding ceremony earlier this month.
