Beloved actor Donald Sutherland has died, his son Kiefer Sutherland announced on Thursday.
The Hollywood icon, who was known for his role of President Snow in the “Hunger Games” film franchise among many others, was 88 years old.
“With a heavy heart, I tell you that my father, Donald Sutherland, has passed away,” Kiefer wrote on X. “I personally think one of the most important actors in the history of film.”

The 57-year-old went on to gush that his late father was “never daunted by a role, good, bad or ugly.”
Kiefer concluded, “He loved what he did and did what he loved, and one can never ask for more than that. A life well lived.”
He made the announcement alongside a black-and-white photo of himself and his father.

Donald shared Kiefer and his twin sister, Rachel, with his ex-wife Shirley Douglas, whom he was married to from 1966 to 1970.
The Emmy winner is also survived by wife Francine Racette and their three sons — Roeg, 50, Rossif, 45, and Angus, 41.

In addition to his “Hunger Games” role, Donald is best known for starring in “M*A*S*H,” “Klute” and more films.
He studied acting at the University of Toronto and the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art before making his debut in “Castle of the Living Dead” in 1964.
Donald went on to appear in more than 140 movies.
Although Donald never won an Oscar throughout his illustrious career, he was honored with an Honorary Academy Award in 2017.
The Golden Globe winner was eating spaghetti on a hotel balcony in Rome with Racette, 76, when he got the call about the award.
Donald told “Live With Kelly and Ryan” viewers that his wife turned to him upon hanging up and joking, “We’re gonna have to lose weight.”
The “Trust” star looked at their pasta and replied, “We’ll start tomorrow.”
In his acceptance speech, Donald quipped that he didn’t “deserve” the trophy — but he had “arthritis and [didn’t] deserve that, either.”
He gushed, “This is important to me, to my family. It’s like a door has opened and an incredibly fresh breath of air has come in.”
