Maika Monroe is an actress who made headlines in June 2024 when she made her relationship official with Ariana Grande’s ex-husband, Dalton Gomez.
Gomez and Monroe sparked dating rumors in October 2023 when they were seen “packing on the PDA” at a bar in Los Angeles.
Monroe marks Gomez’s first public relationship since filing for divorce from the “7 Rings” singer in September 2023 after two years of marriage. They finalized the split one month later and she has since been dating her “Wicked” co-star Ethan Slater.

Prior to dating Gomez, Monroe was in a five-year relationship with “Stranger Things” actor Joe Keery.
The actress has starred in a slew of films and television shows ever since making her acting debut in the 2012 film “At Any Price,” but she also took some time to focus on her professional kiteboarding skills before zoning in on acting.

She’s an actress
Monroe starred in her first movie, “At Any Price,” in 2012, but she solidified her career when acting in the cult horror film “It Follows” two years later. The movie even established her as a scream queen alongside other prominent actresses like Jamie Lee Curtis, Kate Beckinsale and Sarah Paulson.
Since then, she has focused on the genre by starring in several thriller and horror movies like “The Guest,” “Tau,” “Greta,” “The 5th Wave,” “Watcher” and “Longlegs.”
Besides scary movies, Monroe has also had roles in films like “The Bling Ring,” “Labor Day,” “Independence Day: Resurgence,” “Hot Summer Nights,” “After Everything,” “Villains” and “God Is a Bullet.”
She also dabbled in producing and has executive producer credits for horror films “Tau” and “Significant Other” –– both of which she also starred in.
She’s a professional kiteboarder
Before getting involved in the movie business, Monroe had a passion for kiteboarding.
Monroe was born and raised in Santa Barbara, Calif., but she moved to Cabarete in the Dominican Republic when she was just 17 years old to finish her senior year of high school online, per her 2011 profile in the Kiteboarder.
“I love Cabarete. All of my friends do not understand how I could leave high school my senior year and go live in a third-world country. I think how could I not?” she told the outlet at the time.
“All my friends think I should wait because senior year in high school is the most fun and I am leaving Santa Barbara for a third-world country. For me, kiting is what I want to do and there is no better place to live than Cabarete. My friends all think I am crazy.”
Monroe learned to kiteboard from her father after he got her a “trainer kite” on her 13th birthday and she spent the summer before her senior year of high school in Cabarete.
She previously dated Joe Keery
Monroe had her first highly publicized relationship when she began dating Keery in 2017. She and the “Stranger Things” star met at a party in Los Angeles and filmed the movie “After Everything” in 2017.
Over the next five years, they supported each other on red carpets, packed on the PDA and jetted off on various vacations.
“Over quarantine, it was like we spent so much time together, which was rare,” Keery told GQ in August 2021. “I mean, that’s one of the disadvantages of dating someone else in the industry. There are advantages as well: somebody who kind of understands what’s going on with you in a pretty deep way. But yeah, I think she’s like me. She doesn’t take it all too seriously.”
By October 2022, it appeared they had broken up when they stopped making public appearances together. Kerry later confirmed he and the “Independence Day” actress had a “big breakup” in a June 2024 interview with PvNew.
Prior to her relationship with Keery, Monroe was also rumored to be dating Taylor Lautner when photos of them surfaced at a Los Angeles Dodgers baseball game in 2013.
Earlier that same year, she reportedly had a fling with her “At Any Price” co-star Zac Efron, but neither of them ever addressed the rumors.
She began dating Dalton Gomez in October 2023
Gomez –– who was previously married to Grande from 2021 to 2023 –– sparked romance rumors with Monroe after a photo surfaced of them holding each other and kissing at Jumbo’s Clown Room bar in Los Angeles in October 2023.
Someone who met the duo at the time sent the photo to Instagram gossip account Deuxmoi and wrote that they were “PACKING on the PDA.”
“They were very friendly and both introduced themselves. They would look around to see if anyone was looking then continue to make out in front of everyone,” the anonymous user told the account.
The real estate agent and the actress took a break from the public spotlight before they were spotted making out on a getaway to Los Cabos, Mexico, in February 2024.
Monroe and Gomez were both photographed walking around in their swimsuits while hugging and kissing each other.
Four months later, Monroe confirmed their relationship and went Instagram-official with Gomez in a series of sweet snaps together.
Monroe included pictures of the two snuggling on a boat together, playing footsie and kissing each other while he held her close.
Gomez and Grande filed for divorce in September 2023 and Pvnew confirmed they reached an amicable settlement one month later. He and the Grammy winner listed their date of separation as February 2023.
“Ariana and Dalton really wanted to take care of each other through all of this and make it as easy on one another as possible — which is why they really took their time with everything,” a source told us at the time.
The “Side to Side” singer began dating Slater in July 2023.
