While historic Hollywood strikes pushed this year’s Emmys ceremony from September 2023 to January 2024, the looks on Monday night’s red carpet were well worth the wait.
Continuing the trend we saw at the Golden Globes earlier this month, red proved a popular color pick, with Meghann Fahy, Selena Gomez and Suki Waterhouse among the stars who selected gorgeous gowns in shades of scarlet.
Others opted for something even brighter and bolder in the form of neon numbers; Jessica Chastain stunned in fluorescent sequins, while Padma Lakshmi and Rhea Seehorn also looked lovely in lime looks.
And a number of celebs swapped their gowns for elegant tea-length dresses with retro flair, including Ayo Edebiri, Jessica Williams and Jenna Ortega.
Below, our best-dressed picks from Emmys night.
Selena Gomez
To be clear, the “only Murders in the Building” actress’ burgundy sequined Oscar de la Renta illusion gown is gorgeous on its own. But we particularly love how she paired it with the matching vampy lip color and velvet René Caovilla sandals — not to mention that dazzling Jean Schlumberger by Tiffany necklace set with a 35-carat pink morganite.
Ayo Edebiri
Yes, chef! The star of “The Bear” and Outstanding Supporting Actress winner tends to gravitate toward more minimalist looks, and this balloon-skirted black leather Louis Vuitton dress suited her splendidly. “They molded it to me. And we’re snatched and we’re loving it,” Edebiri told E!’s Laverne Cox on the red carpet.
A timeless diamond tennis necklace, stud earrings and eternity band, all from Brilliant Earth, added a touch of subtle sparkle.
Jessica Chastain
All eyes were on the “George & Tammy” nominee in this electric green sequined Gucci gown dripping with beaded fringe.
Emerald jewels from Reza — and, of course, Chastain’s fiery locks — were the ideal accompaniments.
Meghann Fahy
Rosettes have been ubiquitous this awards season, and the “White Lotus” favorite looked ravishing in this red velvet Armani Privé column gown trimmed with the romantic floral accents.
Accessory-wise, a few well-placed pieces from Bulgari took this impeccably tailored number to the next level.
Jessica Williams
The “Shrinking” star embodied old-school glamour in this black velvet Rodarte gown finished with a demure bow and white tulle skirt.
Glamorous curls, bejeweled Betsey Johnson heels and a sprinkling of jewels from Simon G and Vrai enhanced the look’s elegance.
Beatrice Grannò
Like her co-star Fahy, Grannò opted for Armani Privé rosettes on Emmys night — and looked downright dazzling.
“I wanted to portray an image of grace,” the actress told Marie Claire. “The dress has two red roses; it tells the story of a blooming moment, which is what I wanted to highlight on my first Emmys.”
Joked Grannò of the gown, which she paired with Cartier jewelry: “I would never trust [my ‘White Lotus’ character] to wear this dress. Mia is too messy.”
Suki Waterhouse
Hot mama alert! The pregnant “Daisy Jones & The Six” star let her baby bump play peekaboo in this crimson Valentino Haute Couture gown with a bold open back.
“They had to really take it apart and had to redesign this dress to make it fit the bump. But it does and I’m really happy that it worked,” Waterhouse revealed on the red carpet of the look, which she accessorized with Tiffany & Co. jewels.
Jenna Ortega
The “Wednesday” nominee swapped her character’s dark duds for something dreamier: a trellis-inspired Dior Haute Couture dress embroidered with garlands of wisteria, rose and clematis.
“It’s such an art piece; it literally stands on its own. It’s a perfect dress to commemorate a special night,” Ortega told E! of the design, which she accented with Dior Joaillerie gems.
Claire Danes
Now that’s how you make a dramatic exit! The “Fleishman Is in Trouble” actress was a vision in this pink vintage Balmain dress featuring gorgeous jeweled straps that crisscrossed in back.
Cartier jewels set with pastel-toned precious stones were the perfect finishing touch.
