Kate Beckinsale announced the heartbreaking loss of her stepfather, Roy Battersby, who died after a brief illness. He was 87.
The “Serendipity” star shared a screenshot of the famed British TV director’s obituary on her Instagram Story Monday, revealing he “passed away peacefully” in Los Angeles on Jan. 10 “surrounded by family.”
Beckinsale also posted a tribute video made by a fan account that showed Battersby recalling how he celebrated Victory in Europe Day in 1945.
“I have no words yet . Thank you @katebeckinsale_slovakia2 for making this beautiful thing,” she captioned the tribute.
“I fought for you with everything I had. Oh Roy I am so sorry I lost.”
The “Underworld” star, 50, sparked concern among fans earlier this month when she rushed to a hospital from the 2024 Golden Globe Awards while still wearing her gown.
Sitting next to a hospital bed, Beckinsale showed herself keeping a then-unknown patient company with other members of her family on social media.
Days later, the “Pearl Harbor” actress shared a photo of a black square on her Instagram page, prompting fans to believe Battersby had died.
“I’m so, so sorry. Roy was such a beautiful soul who I had the absolute pleasure of meeting and chatting with. It truly was a privilege to meet such a great man. Sending all my love to you all ❤️,” commented one fan at the time.
“My sincerest condolences to you and your family, Kate
