Jonathan Owens doubled down on his claim that he had no idea who seven-time Olympic medallist Simone Biles was when they met.
The NFL player, who wed the world-renowned gymnast in April 2023, first connected with her on the invite-only dating app Raya in 2020.
“A lot of people don’t believe me when I say I had no clue,” he told Vanity Fair in the magazine’s February cover story, which was published Wednesday.
“I never once was like, ‘Oh, let me check gymnastics out,'” he said, noting he was at a football training camp during the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.
However, Owens, 28, quickly learned of Biles’ success when he discovered her Instagram account.
“I was like, ‘Man, she got a lot of followers, she must be pretty good,'” he said.
The Green Bay Packers safety previously came under fire for claiming he was more of a “catch” than Biles, 26.
“I always say that the men are the catch,” Owens said on the “Pivot” podcast last month.
Despite the swift backlash, the couple defended their love a couple of days later when Owens shared a sweet snap from their wedding day in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico.
