Jill Martin shared an emotional update of her crying while undergoing chemo for stage 2 breast cancer on Wednesday.
The “Today” show personality posted a selfie of her shedding a tear while lying in a hospital bed with a neck pillow and several towels wrapped around the top of her head.
“And sometimes it is just okay to cry. Just as long as you continue to fight,” she wrote on top of the Instagram Story.
Martin explained in another Story post that she was using the process of cold capping to hopefully reduce hair loss during her chemo treatment.
She shared a selfie of her hair curly and frizzy while a woman stood behind her and applied the cold capping process to her.
“80s rock star. Cold capping thank you @penguincoldcapsglobal. Another earth angel fave @rightarminc_coldcapping,” she captioned the Story.
The “Steals and Deals” segment host, 47, added that she only has two chemotherapy sessions left after the one on Wednesday.
Martin revealed in August that she underwent a double mastectomy, and even though it went “successfully,” she’d still have to get chemotherapy to “help ensure” she’s cancer-free.
“I will also need to take anti-hormonal drugs for 5 years. And I will most likely need chemotherapy because of the aggressiveness of the tumor,” she wrote in an Aug. 7 “Today” essay. “That is the part that hit me the hardest — the idea of chemo.”
In addition to her double mastectomy and chemo procedures, she will also have to get a full hysterectomy to help prevent ovarian cancer.
The former sports broadcaster announced that she was diagnosed after testing positive for the BRCA gene in July.
“Of course I’m devastated. You hear the C-word and you think the worst,” she told People. “But after you hear the word and you absorb it, you then have to be your own best friend.”
Martin has since continued to share health updates on the “Today” show over the last few months.
