Awkward!
Diane Keaton called herself “disgusting” and “stupid” during Friday’s episode of “The View.”
While promoting “Book Club: The Next Chapter” with co-stars Mary Steenburgen, Candice Bergen and Jane Fonda, the Instagram video where she danced to “Flowers” by Miley Cyrus was brought up.
Immediately Keaton expressed that she didn’t want to talk, saying, “Not me.”
However, when the clip of her dancing was played, she quipped in the background, “That’s me! Disgusting!”
“That’s so stupid I can’t stand it. Look at that, that’s a crazy person,” she continued.
The “Father of the Bride” actress, 77, then lifted a champagne flute, took a sip and proclaimed, “I’m gonna drink up to that one.”
Keaton didn’t think it was so crazy when she initially posted the video, writing at the time, “TO MILEY YOUR INCREDIBLE SONG GAVE ME A REASON TO DANCE IN MY OWN BACKYARD!”
During her appearance, the actress also seemed bewildered by the live audience.
When co-host Alyssa Farah Griffin began to ask her a question about having “fun at any age,” Keaton cut her off Griffin and said, “I had no fun at any age.”
She then looked around the room describing it as “scary.”
“I mean there’s a lot of people I’m looking at right now,” Keaton continued. “Look at them. They’re amazing. They’re your people. Look, oh my god. Why am I here?”
The Oscar winner clearly did not want to be there.
Keaton has embraced her kooky persona since starring in 1977’s “Annie Hall” and is one of the few movie stars who has never married.
Earlier this year, she shared that it’s “highly unlikely” she will ever be in another relationship and hasn’t dated in years, despite having high-profile romances with Warren Beatty, Al Pacino and Woody Allen.
“I don’t date,” Keaton said in an interview for AARP Magazine. “I don’t remember anyone calling me, going, ‘This is So-and-So, I’d like to take you out.’ They don’t happen. Of course not.”
Keaton became a single mother in her 50s when she adopted her daughter, Dexter, 27, and her son, Duke, 22.
Now that she’s an empty-nester, Keaton has found companionship with a four-legged friend, her dog Reggie.
“Dogs are irresistible,” she explained. “They’re just idiots. Reggie is a big jerk, and she’s hilarious.”
