Rita Ora is dressing for herself.
The pop star spoke about her polarizing personal style in her new Glamour UK cover story, saying that women in the entertainment industry are “treated differently” when it comes to what they wear and how they act.
“I’ve had it my whole career: having people judge what I wear, saying, ‘Is she too naked?’ Or, ‘Can she say things like that?’ I find it extremely misogynistic,” said Ora, who’s never shied away from a skin-baring style.
The 32-year-old singer — who covers the magazine in a gold pleated Maximilian Raynor jacket with an exaggerated collar — added that she’s always admired Madonna, who’s similarly fearless when it comes to both her fashion and attitude.
“She knew not everyone was going to agree with her. And she just did it anyway,” Ora said.
“I’m thanking her for that, because that’s given me the ability to be more outrageous, a bit more outlandish with things: how I dress, things I might say. I’m not perfect, but I think that’s what keeps my fans entertained the most.”
She also revealed more details about her secret wedding to filmmaker Taika Waititi, 47, in the interview — including the story behind the “incredible” gown she wore for her big day.
“I’ve always wanted to have Tom Ford involved in my wedding,” Ora said. “He’s one of my favorite designers of all time.”
Continued the singer, “I’ve never forgotten a gown I’d seen from, I think, was his 2018 fashion show. It was a white, lace dress, with a full-length veil that touched the floor.”
What happened next, Ora swore, “was like out of a movie.”
“I went to Tom Ford’s shop to see if they had any wedding dresses. And they had this one wedding dress. So bizarre. I’m not even joking; it was on my mood board,” she recalled.
“It was the one dress I wanted and it was there, ready. And it fitted. It was meant to be.”
While the pop star kept mum on when and where the big day took place — and has yet to share photos of her dress or the ceremony — she did say that Waititi’s daughters Matewa Kiritapu, 7, and Te Hinekāhu, 11, whom he shares with ex-wife Chelsea Winstanley, were in attendance.
Ora’s sister was also at the wedding, while her parents joined virtually.
Fingers crossed the wedding dress Ora wore in her “You only Love Me” music video isn’t the only one fans will get to see.
