Gayle King says her pals Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are in a good place after the renegade royal released his controversial memoir about his family earlier this year.
“I think that Harry and Meghan are living their truth and I think they will make their best decisions for themselves,” she told Pvnew at the Time 100 Gala this week.
“I think they’re very solid,” the “CBS Mornings” co-host continued, adding that “they don’t consult me about their own decisions.”
“They make their own decisions and so far they’re doing what works and what’s best for them.”
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex bowed out of senior royal life in January 2020 and are now based in California.
King, 68, has been a longtime friend and supporter of the royal couple, having met them through her best friend Oprah Winfrey.
She was one of the guests at Markle’s baby shower in 2019 when the duchess was pregnant with Prince Archie.
On air, the anchor revealed that “a good time was had by all, that’s what I’ll say … it was a very, very small, private affair and just a very special time for her.”
She defended the couple in 2022 when Andy Cohen jokingly called the Netflix series “Harry & Meghan” a reality show.
“It’s not a reality show,” King retorted. “It’s not.”
One of the “decisions” that the couple made recently was for Markle not to attend King Charles III’s upcoming coronation.
Instead, Prince Harry will be attending solo.
Pvnew exclusively reported that Markle felt it would be “inauthentic” for her to go to the ceremony in light of the drama that has followed her and Harry’s royal exit.
“They had to make a decision that felt genuine and authentic, especially after everything that has been said and all the things that have gone down,” an insider familiar with the couple told us.
Markle also chose to skip the May 6 coronation since it falls on the same day as her son Prince Archie’s fourth birthday.
Meanwhile, King was happy to be mingling with other A-listers at the starry gala.
“This is a very special night,” she shared. “I feel people are just so glad to be out of the house. We still have COVID lurking around, but I’m tired of being afraid of it, so to come out and celebrate people who are doing good things for the world and changing things in the world is a great thing.”
Other celebs at the annual bash included Ali Wong, Michael B. Jordan, Drew Barrymore, Kim Kardashian, Lea Michele, Don Lemon, Salma Hayek and Mia Farrow.
