Sofia Richie’s wedding afterparty dress has earned the supermodel seal of approval.
Last weekend, the 24-year-old model married Elliot Grainge in the South of France wearing a trio of custom Chanel Haute Couture looks — including a party-ready mini inspired by a runway look modeled by Claudia Schiffer in 1993.
And on Wednesday, the 52-year-old catwalk legend reacted to her role in Richie’s lavish nuptials, sharing a photo of herself in the original dress along with one of the bride’s version.
“Congratulations to beautiful @sofiarichiegrainge!” Schiffer captioned her Instagram post.
Richie responded in the comments, writing, “ah thank you !!!”
The influencer’s afterparty frock featured a corseted bodice and one of Chanel’s iconic camellias front and center, just like Schiffer’s.
“This, to me, is like my little girl dream,” Richie told Vogue during her fitting. “And the fact that it is inspired [by] Claudia Schiffer’s runway dress is iconic and dope.”
Commented one fan on Schiffer’s social media post, “The dress is beautiful on both of you.”
“I knew I’d seen it somewhere before!! Fabulous,” another added.
A few fans battled it out over which star wore the look best, with one writing, “No one could wear it better than Claudia, not that dress, with that walk, she owns it.”
Another told Schiffer, “She looks so pretty but you look so freakin hot I’m not sure if worked.”
Multiple people declared the dress “iconic” and “legendary,” with one writing, “Would love to see if someone wears this look for the Met Gala this year. Definitely one of the most iconic chanel moments.”
Their wish could come true, as Chanel’s late creative director, Karl Lagerfeld, will be honored at Monday’s ball.
Schiffer, a longtime Lagerfeld muse, paid the designer a touching tribute on social media when he passed away in 2019 after a battle with pancreatic cancer.
“Karl was my magic dust, he transformed me from a shy German girl into a supermodel,” the top model wrote at the time.
“He is the only person who could make black and white colourful! I will be eternally grateful to him.”
