Francia Raísa is giving rare insight into her and Selena Gomez’s tumultuous friendship — claiming their drama has “nothing to do” with their kidney transplant.
“People grow, relationships change,” the “How I Met Your Father” alum explained to Extra on Wednesday of navigating “rocky and tricky” dynamics.
“I treat her like my little sister, she treats me like her older sister,” the actress, 35, continued. “I don’t know any relationship that’s perfect.”
Raísa and Gomez, 31, needed “to spend some time apart in order to grow” and go on their “own journey[s].”
She added, “[I had to] take some time for myself and figure out what the hell was going on with me because I wasn’t OK. I am OK now.”
While Raísa “never pictured” herself and the former Disney Channel star growing apart, she didn’t “regret” the distance between them — and clarified that they are now in a better place “celebrating and supporting each other.”
The duo have given glimpses of their rekindled friendship in recent months, from Gomez celebrating Raísa’s birthday in July to going out with her in Santa Monica, Calif., the following month.
Raísa has been friends with Gomez since 2007, famously donating a kidney to the “only Murders in the Building” star in 2017 amid her ongoing lupus battle.
The pair “trauma-bonded” during that time, Raísa told the outlet.
She also credited the beginning of their bond to both going through breakups at the same time and becoming “inseparable.”
However, eagle-eyed fans noticed Gomez telling Rolling Stone in 2022 that Taylor Swift was her “only friend in the industry” — and Raísa commenting “interesting” on an Instagram post highlighting that particular quote.
Gomez clapped back via TikTok, writing, “Sorry I didn’t mention every person I know.”
Raísa subsequently stayed silent on their suspected feud — even as her dad, Renán Almendárez Coello, spoke out and Gomez insisted in March that they were “best friends.”
The “Grown-ish” alum finally said in August that she had “no beef, just salsa” with Gomez.
