Don’t call it a comeback!
Sources tell us that Donald Trump has been “quietly speaking to” former senior adviser Kellyanne Conway to get her to join the team for his 2024 campaign.
But it’s unclear if Conway is ready to sign up.
Insiders say that Trump has been wooing Conway, now a Fox News contributor, for the past 18 months. A source told us, “He credits her with helping him win the last time” in 2016.
Another insider confirmed that Trump has been in touch with Conway, saying: “He always appreciated so much and understood the value she brought to 2016. Without her, it wouldn’t have happened.”
The insider added that Trump could want to keep Conway — who also once chaired a pro-Ted Cruz political action committee — away from other candidates, such as Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, Trump’s presumed opponent in the race for the GOP nomination.
“She was a formidable opponent [with Cruz], and [Trump] might want to lock her up and make sure she doesn’t go to DeSantis,” the insider said.
But a source familiar with Trump’s thinking told us, “Kellyanne has an excellent relationship with President Trump and his team . . . but she would be crazy to commit to a single opportunity right now. She is busier than ever with a lengthy roster of political, corporate and media clients, not to mention offers from 2024 players and a big Fox News contract” — which we hear runs through next year and “could expand in the months ahead,” the source said.
Reps for Conway and Trump did not comment when we reached out.
The insider added: “Now that she’s divorced from Trump hater George Conway, Trump feels she has less baggage. She never crossed an uncrossable line in her book [last year’s ‘Here’s the Deal’] and TV appearances.”
Pvnew exclusively reported last month that Trump aide Kellyanne and longtime Trump tormentor George were divorcing after 22 years of marriage.
