Mary Fitzgerald’s fertility journey has grown more “complicated” since she announced in March that she suffered a septic miscarriage.
“I have had an MRI scan, a full body scan and I have to have a surgery on my uterus,” the “Selling Sunset” star, 43, told Us Weekly Tuesday at a celebration for her and her husband Romain Bonnet’s Bella Magazine cover.
“It’s gonna [sic] be an interesting process. It’s not going to be as easy as we thought it would.”

Despite the setbacks, the Netflix reality star is “OK” with what she’s facing next as she and Bonnet try to conceive a child together.
“I’ve had plenty of time to process and, in the beginning, it wasn’t easy,” she shared with the outlet. “I think that I’ve really taken a stance, and it’s become a passion of mine to raise awareness for women’s issues.”
Bonnet said that while a child would be “great,” he doesn’t want to “put any pressure” on 43-year-old Fitzgerald.
“We’re gonna see how it goes,” he added.
Fitzgerald, who is already mom to 28-year-old son Austin from a previous relationship, announced that she had gotten pregnant on her and Bonnet’s honeymoon to Bali, but it “didn’t work out.”
“On top of the miscarriage, I also had a septic miscarriage,” the real estate agent said while choking back tears. “So, had to go in for surgery for that.”
A septic miscarriage occurs when a woman develops an infection in the uterus, according to the Mayo Clinic, and can cause chills, fever, vaginal discharge, vaginal bleeding and a rapid heart rate. Surgery is then required to remove the cause of the infection.
“I guess the only reason why I’ve been silent for a long time — and the reason why I’m speaking out now — is because I do realize how common this is and how many people go through this,” she continued.
Bonnet and Fitzgerald tied the knot in a secret civil ceremony in March 2018, more than a year before their filmed Netflix nuptials.
