Maci Bookout said her son Bentley is “angry” over his father Ryan Edwards’ drug overdose.
The reality star revealed in Wednesday’s episode of “Teen Mom: The Next Chapter” that her ex agreed to go to rehab for his substance abuse issues — but decided to leave early.
“He just called me and told me that he’s coming home early. I don’t agree with this decision,” she told her husband, Taylor McKinney.
“I just don’t think it’s a good idea considering his long history of substance abuse.”
Later in the episode, Bookout learned Edwards had overdosed and required “two doses of Narcan” — a drug that counteracts potentially lethal ODs — to survive.
“That’s truly the first time I was genuinely scared. Having to have that conversation with Bentley and just seeing that … I know how I felt hearing it, but Ryan’s not my dad,” she said in a confessional.
Bookout told her friends that Bentley had been “very worried” about his father before the rehab stint, but when the 14-year-old heard Edwards had left, he immediately assumed his dad would end up in jail.
“The way things have been going the last four or five months and how good things were going, even in the midst of all this crap with his soon-to-be ex-wife [Mackenzie Edwards] … I think Bentley is angry because he’s like I used to be,” she said.
“Like, ‘Man, do you realize how much potential you have?’ I just think for Bentley, he’s just like, ‘Damn, 10 pieces of the puzzle had been put in the right place and you still couldn’t get the five pieces left in there.'”
In March, a judge ordered Ryan to complete a 45-day stay in rehab after he was arrested for a series of crimes involving his estranged wife, Mackenzie.
Mackenzie, 26 — who shares two young kids, Jagger and Stella, with Ryan — eventually became fed up with the drama and filed for divorce after six years of marriage.
