Zach Bryan’s girlfriend, Brianna Chickenfry, hilariously roasted the country singer online after his arrest.
The Barstool Sports personality, whose real name is Brianna LaPaglia, shared Britney Spears’ song “Criminal” on her Instagram Story early Friday, shortly after news broke that Bryan had been busted in his home state of Oklahoma.
However, the post signaled that Chickenfry, 24, would not let the incident tarnish their relationship, as Spears sings the lyrics, “Mama, I’m in love with a criminal.”
Pvnew confirmed the “Heading South” crooner, 27, was taken into police custody Thursday night on a charge of obstruction of investigation.
The Craig County Sheriff’s Office snapped his mugshot, and he was later released on bond.
Bryan subsequently confirmed on social media that he had “an incident” with the Oklahoma Highway Patrol and took responsibility for his actions.
“Emotions got the best of me and I was out of line in the things I said,” he tweeted. “I support law enforcement as much as anyone can, I was just frustrated in the moment, it was unlike me and I apologize.”
He continued, “They brought me to jail, and there is a mug shot of me floating around. Prayers we can all move on from this and prayers people know I’m just trying the best I can, I love you guys and I am truly sorry to the officers.”
The “Something in the Orange” singer then issued a public apology for getting “lippy” with police officers in a video posted to Instagram in which he described the incident to his fans.
“I was an idiot today,” he admitted. “My decisions did not reflect who I was as a person. I just want to make that clear. I should’ve been smarter about it.”
Bryan further explained that he had been pulled over earlier this week for speeding, and the same cop stopped his security guard Thursday as they drove from Oklahoma to Boston, which sparked his “immature” reaction.
“Ten to 15 minutes go by, and I get out of the car, and I’m like, ‘Man, what is taking so long?’ And I was gonna smoke a cigarette,” he said.
“The cop comes up to me, and he’s like, ‘Sir, get back in your vehicle.’ And I’m like, ‘I’m not the one getting pulled over.’ He’s like, ‘Get back in your vehicle or I’m gonna have to take you to jail.’ And like a dumbass, I said, ‘Take me to f–kin’ jail? What do you mean?’ …
“He brings me over to his car, and I just didn’t help my situation at all. I felt like a child. It was ridiculous. It was immature,” the Grammy nominee continued. “And I just pray everyone knows that I don’t think I’m above the law. I was just being disrespectful, and I shouldn’t have been, and it was my mistake.”
Bryan, who copped to “mouthing off like an idiot,” said he finally calmed down while being transported to the police station and “eventually shook hands” with the arresting officer.
“I just wanted to apologize to the trooper — both troopers — that I was rude to,” he said. “You didn’t deserve it, and hopefully one day we meet under difference circumstances.”
The musician’s arrest came just days after his new self-titled album became his first to hit No. 1 on the Billboard 200.
He released the 16-track “Zach Bryan” one month after Chickenfry publicly confirmed their romance.
“I think I might have some stuff to address: I’ve been hanging out with a guy named Zach,” she told her co-cost Grace O’Malley on the “PlanBri Uncut” podcast in July.
“Zach who?” O’Malley asked, to which Chickenfry said, “Bryan. … [We] started hanging out … what, three weeks ago?”
At the time, the social media influencer called their relationship “fun” and “casual.”
“Just wanted to address it because the whole internet is freaking the f–k out and people are doing s–t,” she said, adding that she wanted to keep it private but had no choice when her fans figured out she was seeing Bryan.
“It’s the one thing I just wanted for me, and it just sucks with the internet, how they speculate and s–t with timelines and stuff. It’s just stupid, so I figured I would just say it before the whole internet gets to say who I am and what I’m doing, you know?” she said.
Chickenfry shared that they were “just hanging out” but noted, “We’ll see where it goes, and I’m happy.”
The couple met in May at the ACM Awards in Dallas and posed for a photo together. The podcast later admitted she “couldn’t stop smiling” after snagging a picture with the rising music star.
Later that month, Bryan shared that he and his girlfriend, Deb Peifer, had ended their relationship after dating for a little over a year.
“For transparency and with respect I am letting everyone know Debra and me went our separate ways about a week and a half ago,” he tweeted at the time. “Things are mutual between us, we’re leaving with plenty memories and good times.”
The Navy veteran added, “I beg so much that everyone respects her and my privacy through a hard time.”
