Gigi Hadid was arrested for marijuana possession while vacationing in the Cayman Islands, Pvnew has /confirm/ied.
The model had been traveling with her friend Leah Nicole McCarthy when customs officers scanned their luggage upon arrival at the airport on July 10, local outlet Cayman Marl Road reported Monday.
The scan prompted a more thorough search of the pair’s luggage, which resulted in officers discovering marijuana and “utensils used for the consumption of ganja.”
Hadid, 28, and McCarthy, 29, were arrested on suspicion of importation of ganja and importation of utensils used for the consumption of ganja, according to records obtained by Pvnew Tuesday.
Both women were transported to the Prisoner Detention Center for processing and eventually released on bail.
Hadid and McCarthy appeared in Summary Court on July 12 and pleaded guilty. They were both fined $1,000 and avoided a recorded conviction.
“Gigi was traveling with marijuana purchased legally in NYC with a medical license,” Hadid’s rep told E! News in a statement Tuesday.
“It has also been legal for medical use in Grand Cayman since 2017. Her record remains clear, and she enjoyed the rest of her time on the island.”
The “Next in Fashion” co-host didn’t appear to let the brief time behind bars affect her, as she posted several photos to Instagram from her tropical vacation.
In one series of photos, Hadid showed off an enormous hip tattoo of a dragon that she snapped while wearing a teeny bikini.
