Shania Twain is living by her own word: “The best thing about being a woman is the prerogative to have a little fun.”
The “Man! I Feel Like a Woman!” singer is clapping back at critics who think she should “dress age appropriately” in a new Instagram post, writing that fun outfits are “a powerful tool” to express herself.
The 57-year-old — who rocked two daring looks to the 2023 CMT Awards on Sunday — shared some photos of her sexy outfits along with her thoughts on style after some fans criticized her for trying to dress younger.
“For me fashion is a powerful tool that helps to convey my personality and express my creativity and other than getting to hang out with my friends for the night, it’s one of my favourite things about attending award shows!” she captioned her post.
The “From This Moment On” singer added, “Life is too short to wear boring clothes!! [kissing emoji] Thank you to the team behind my @cmt #CMTAwards looks.”
In the first photo, Twain straddles a prop as she wears a black cowboy hat, over-the-knee boots and a purple tweed set from Chanel featuring a crop top and tiny shorts.
She included a closer look at the designer outfit in a flat lay, going on to share a pic of herself getting ready in a robe and one of her red-and-black Prabal Gurung gown draped across a bed.
The “I’m Gonna Getcha Good” singer — who is known for her bold style — also posted several snaps of herself posing in the daring dress on the red carpet, with the long-sleeved designer dress featuring cutouts at the sides and a high slit.
Despite her message, some fans still left critical comments, like one who wrote, “Love Shania, but please stop trying to keep up with the youngsters and dress age appropriately. Such a beautiful woman, hope she doesn’t go the Madonna route.”
“Dressing like a street worker does not convey creativity although it probably does reflect your personality!” another comment read.
Others defended Twain, like one fan who commented, “Can people just stop telling her how she should look, according to what you want her to look like? Nobody is telling you that you need to change.”
“She’s a performer and if she wants to dress up during performances, she will. Period!” the Instagram user added.
The Canadian star previously defended herself against trolls, saying she doesn’t “need to hide behind clothes” after posing topless for her latest album artwork.
“This is a statement of being comfortable in my own skin and just being really myself,” she said at the time.
Whether it’s the spotted look she wore to the 2023 Grammys or the platinum blond hair she sported in February, Twain will always impress us much.
