Protecting her peace.
Kayla Nicole explained why she unfollowed Patrick and Brittany Mahomes on Instagram after her ex-boyfriend Travis Kelce began dating Taylor Swift.
“I do think it’s important to publicly address this because I did publicly unfollow people,” she told People in an interview published Wednesday.
“The reality is I know these people in real life. And so, in real life, I’ve communicated to these people why I’ve had to publicly make the decisions that I made.”
Nicole, 31, said that though she and the Kansas City Chiefs tight end, 34, broke up a year ago, she still has “ongoing relationships” with Patrick and his wife.
The former on-air sports journalist told the magazine that she and Brittany “have had our conversations,” adding, “She knows that I love her.”
“That’s a lot of history and friendship there, that doesn’t change overnight,” Nicole continued. “But publicly, because things are happening so quickly and so publicly, I have to protect myself. That’s really all that is.
“The love is still there.”
Though the fitness influencer said that she still loves her “[Kansas City] people and my [Kansas City] community so much,” she has “to move forward and everyone has to respect that.”
“And hopefully when they respect that, that means that they’re no longer inserting me into things that do not involve me,” she added.
Earlier this month, fans noticed that Nicole had unfollowed Patrick and Brittany, both 28, after the mom of two was spotted having a girls’ night out with Swift, whose budding relationship with Kelce has continued to make headlines.
She also unfollowed the NFL quarterback’s younger brother, Jackson Mahomes.
Nicole and Kelce, who were first linked in 2017, initially split in the summer of 2020 before reuniting just a few months later.
After the pair called it quits for good in May 2022, the two-time Super Bowl champ set his sights on the “Anti-Hero” hitmaker.
Kelce and Swift, 33, went public with their romance in September after the Grammy winner cheered the athlete on at his home game against the Chicago Bears.
Since the sporting event, the power couple has made a handful of public appearances — even showing off some PDA by holding hands and sharing a sweet kiss.
The “Cruel Summer” songstress has also been fitting in with the other WAGs, as she was recently spotted sharing a new BFF handshake with Brittany during the Chiefs’ game on Sunday.
