The song aligns with Emma Stone’s life “all too well.”
Taylor Swift dropped her re-recorded album, “Speak Now (Taylor’s Version),” on Friday with six new songs. Among them is “When Emma Falls in Love,” which fans are certain is about the “Cruella” actress.
Swifties’ theories that the song is based on Stone’s four-year relationship with Andrew Garfield started flooding in on Twitter Friday morning upon the tune’s release.
“WHEN EMMA FALLS IN LOVE IS ACTUALLY about EMMA STONE AND ANDREW GARFIELD???” one person tweeted.
“TAYLOR SWIFT SAID SHE’S THE KIND OF BOOK THAT YOU CAN’T PUT DOWN WHILE ANDREW GARFIELD onCE SAID I’LL WRITE A BOOK ONE DAY about HOW I FEEL about EVERY ASPECT OF EMILY STONE,” a second person tweeted, quoting lyrics from the song. “WHEN EMMA FALLS IN LOVE IS about STonEFIELD IS about EMMA STONE.”
Several other netizens shared fan edit videos of Stone, 34, and Garfield, 39, when they were together as Swift’s song played in the background.
While it’s unclear if the song is centered around the exes, listeners can’t ignore that Swift’s lyrics share a striking resemblance to Stone’s life.
In the song, the Grammy-winning artist sings the words, “When Emma falls in love, she calls up her mom, jokes about the ways that this one could go wrong.”
Stone famously has a close relationship with her mom and has taken her to several events over the years.
Swift then sings, “She waits and takes her time, ’cause little miss sunshine always thinks it’s gonna rain.”
The “little miss sunshine” part could be a nod to a scene in the 2010 movie “Easy A” in which Stone’s character hilariously sings Natasha Bedingfield’s song “Pocket Full of Sunshine.”
Swift, 33, notably attended the “Easy A” premiere with Stone and posed for photos with the actress on the red carpet.
The “Bad Blood” artist also belts out, “Well, she’s so New York when she’s in L.A.”
These lyrics could call back to when the two were constantly seen hanging out in New York City between 2008 and 2010 when Swift wrote the original “Speak Now” album, despite Stone living in Los Angeles, per Entertainment Weekly.
Whoever the song is about, it’s clear Swift has a deep admiration for “Emma.”
“She won’t lose herself in love the way that I did/’Cause she’ll call you out, she’ll put you in your place/When Emma falls in love, I’m learning,” Swift sings.
Stone and Garfield dated for four years after meeting on the set of “The Amazing Spider-Man” but they broke up in 2015.
Swift, for her part, has been linked to a slew of famous men, including Joe Alwyn and Matty Healy in 2023 alone.
After six years together, Alwyn and Swift parted ways before she moved on with Healy, whom she also dumped after just one month.
