Cardi B and Offset formed one of the most iconic couples in hip-hop when they joined forces.
Though they’ve had their ups and downs — including breakups, makeups, extravagant gifts and public spats — the rappers have managed to make their marriage work and bring two beautiful children into this world.
Here is a complete timeline of their relationship:
January 2017: They collaborate
Cardi and Offset collaborated on her song “Lick,” which was featured on her January 2017 mixtape, “Gangsta Bitch Music, Vol. 2.”
February 2017: They start dating
Offset “went big” for his first date with Cardi, taking her to Super Bowl LI in February 2017.
“I wanted to do something that was not normally done, you know what I’m saying? I wanted to have fun,” he said on “Jimmy Kimmel Live” in July 2021.
Cardi, for her part, shared with GQ in April 2018 that she told her publicist to tell the Migos member, “Listen, if we gonna go on a public date together, you cannot make me look like a dumbass after this.”
“And he was like, ‘No, I really like her. I’m really feeling her,'” she explained, adding that they spent the night “talking” and “making out” but “didn’t f–k.”
The Grammy winner added that their romance “got really serious” after the big event.
May 2017: They attend their first Met Gala afterparty together
Cardi and Offset attended their first Met Gala afterparty together in May 2017.
Later that month, she released her music video for “Lick,” which showed her dancing on and flirting with her new man.
September 2017: They secretly say ‘I do’
Cardi and Offset secretly tied the knot in September 2017. The couple did not announce the nuptials to the public until nine months later.
October 2017: They get engaged publicly
Though they were already legally married, Offset publicly proposed to Cardi in October 2017.
The “Walk It Talk It” hitmaker got down on one knee in the middle of Power 99’s Powerhouse concert in Philadelphia at the time, presenting his leading lady with a massive diamond ring.
“I can’t wait to spend FOREVAAAA with you,” Cardi later gushed on Instagram. “Lets make a lot shmoney and love together.”
January 2018: Cheating rumors begin to circulate
The honeymoon phase of the duo’s engagement was short-lived, as less than three months later, videos allegedly showing Offset in bed with multiple women began to circulate online.
Though he refused to address the cheating rumors in an interview with Rolling Stone at the time, Cardi did not hold back on Twitter.
“No, it’s not right for a [n—a] to cheat…But what you want me to do?” she lamented at the time. “Go f–k me another n—a? Start all over again and get cheated on again? This s–t happens to everyone and I be too, you too…People handle they relationship different soo.”
Later that month, Offset got Cardi’s name tattooed on his neck.
February 2018: Cardi vows to ‘work out s–t’ with Offset
Cardi told Cosmopolitan in February 2018 that she was staying with Offset despite his alleged infidelity.
“I want to work out my s–t with my man, and I don’t got to explain why,” she said at the time, later adding, “I’m going to take my time, and I’m going to decide on my decision. It’s not right, what he f–king did — but people don’t know what I did, ’cause I ain’t no angel.”
April 2018: Cardi reveals she’s pregnant with their first child
In April 2018, Cardi announced she and Offset were expecting their first child together while she performed on “Saturday Night Live” in a tight white dress that showed off her growing baby bump.
June 2018: Cardi confirms their marriage
After Offset referred to Cardi as his “wife” at the BET Awards in June 2018, the “Bodak Yellow” rapper begrudgingly confirmed their marriage via Twitter.
“One morning in September we woke up and decided to get married,” she told her followers at the time, adding that she “said I do, with no dress no make up and no ring! … at least ya can stop saying i had a baby out of wedlock.”
July 2018: Their daughter is born
The pair’s daughter, Kulture Kiari Cephus, was born on July 10, 2018.
December 2018: Cardi announces their breakup
Cardi announced her breakup from Offset in December 2018, telling her fans, “We got a lot of love for each other, but things just haven’t been working out between us for a long time.”
“It’s nobody fault I guess we just grew out of love, but we are not together anymore,” she continued at the time. “It might take time to get a divorce and I’m going to always have a lot of love for him because he is my daughter’s father.”
January 2019: They reconcile
A month after Cardi called it quits, she and Offset were back on. The “I Like It” rapper told a reporter at the time that she and her child’s father were “working things out, baby.”
August 2020: Cardi dishes on their dramatic marriage
Cardi admitted to Elle in August 2020 that her relationship with Offset was marked by “a lot of drama.”
“But there’s a lot of love, there’s a lot of passion, there’s a lot of trust, there’s a big friendship,” she added. “It’s always us against the world.”
September 2020: Cardi files for divorce
After three years of marriage, Cardi filed for divorce in September 2020, reportedly after discovering that Offset had allegedly cheated on her again.
October 2020: They kiss and make up
In October 2020, Cardi and Offset were seen making out at her birthday party.
Days later, she said on Instagram Live that they were “no different than y’all’s dysfunctional ass relationships.”
At the time, the “Money” rapper also admitted that it was “really hard not to talk to your best friend” and “really hard to have no d–k.”
November 2020: Cardi calls off the divorce
Cardi called off her divorce from the “Bad and Boujee” rapper in November 2020, just two months after she filed.
June 2021: They’re expecting another baby
Cardi announced her second pregnancy during yet another performance.
At the BET Awards in June 2021, the “Love & Hip Hop: New York” alum debuted her growing baby bump while joining her husband and his musical group on stage for a rendition of “Type S–t.”
September 2021: Their baby boy arrives
Cardi and Offset welcomed their son on September 4, 2021. They didn’t reveal his name, Wave Set Cephus, until April 2022.
June 2023: Offset accuses Cardi of hooking up with another man
In June 2023, Offset accused Cardi of cheating on him via his Instagram Story, writing, “My wife f–ked a N—a on me gang yall n—as know how I come.”
Hours later, the “WAP” rapper issued a denial via Twitter Spaces.
“First of all, let me say,” she began in song. “You can’t accuse me of all the things you know that you are guilty of. Sing it with me, y’all! And I see that it is easy for you to blame everything on me. Yes, honey!”
“Listen,” Cardi went on, speaking directly to her listeners. “Don’t pay attention to that country man, y’all.”
She also pointed to her celebrity status and argued at the time, “If I was giving this p—y to anybody, it would be out.”
December 2023: Another rough patch, then split
The couple seemed to hit a rough patch in December 2023 when they unfollowed each other on Instagram.
The “Bodak Yellow” songstress also shared some cryptic messages via her Instagram Story.
“You know when you just out grow [sic] relationships,” she wrote on one slide, which was followed by, “I’m tired of protecting peoples [sic] feelings…I GOTTA PUT MYSELF FIRST.”
Meanwhile, Offset posted a snippet of Al Pacino’s “Scarface” character on his Instagram Story.
“Hey, f—k you, man! Who put this thing together? Me! Who do I trust? Me!” his character shouted.
Days later, Cardi confirmed in an Instagram Live that she had been single “for a minute.”
