Busy Philipps’ oldest daughter, Birdie, has ditched they/them pronouns.
“The truth is Birdie has decided that her pronouns are she/her,” the “Cougar Town” alum told Pvnew exclusively at the 2023 American Museum of Natural History Gala on Thursday night.
In 2021, the “Busy Philipps is Doing Her Best” podcaster shared that Birdie, now 15, was gay and preferred they/them pronouns.
She also admitted that she sometimes does a “bad job” with pronouns but was working on it because of how important it was to her daughter’s identity.
“Because Birdie said that they would like their pronouns to be they/them — and I haven’t been doing it — and I said because I have this public persona and I want Birdie to be in control of their own narrative and not have to answer to anybody outside of our friends and family if they don’t want to,” Philipps explained.
“Bird was like, ‘I don’t give a f–k. You can talk about how I’m gay and out. You can talk about my pronouns. That would be cool with me. That’s great.’ So I said, ‘OK, I can talk about it on the podcast.’”
“So Birdie, my out kid, prefers they/them,” Philipps added. “I f–k up sometimes, but I’m trying my best at that, too.”
The “Freaks and Geeks” alum explained Thursday that Birdie’s reversal is “what’s so incredible about what gender-affirming care can be. That you allow kids to figure out who they are.”
Philipps and ex-husband Marc Silverstein also share younger daughter Cricket, 10.
On a professional note, the actress, 44, shared that she’s thrilled the SAG-AFTRA strike is finally over.
She’ll soon be seen as Regina George’s mom in the eagerly awaited “Mean Girls” musical.
Philipps confessed to Pvnew that she was “surprised” that the much-discussed trailer “didn’t show any of the musical parts,” however, she said she’s “not a marketing person.”
“I just show up and do my job!” she told us.
There is also a new season of the sitcom “Girls5eva” — helmed by Tina Fey — coming next year.
“She [Fey] has been a huge supporter of mine,” Philipps said. “I’m eternally grateful every time my phone rings and it’s Tina Fey.”
