The Food and Drug Administration has issued a recall on thousands of Vital Protein products — a collagen supplement widely touted by stars like Jennifer Aniston and Kourtney Kardashian — for possible contamination.
The federal agency’s website states that 59,701 canisters of Vital Proteins Collagen Peptides may contain foreign materials, specifically “pieces of one blue broken lid.”
The locations where the tarnished products may have been shipped include Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Missouri, Wisconsin, Connecticut, Delaware, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Vermont, Alabama, Georgia, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Florida and Puerto Rico.
The recall was initiated on April 21, per the site.
However, Aniston, 54, was still promoting the product on her Instagram days later.
The “Friends” alum shared a video of herself making a cup of coffee with Vital Proteins mixed into it on May 9.
It is unclear whether Aniston was aware of the recall or if she has decided to terminate her partnership as a result of it.
Her reps declined Pvnew’s request for comment.
The “Along Came Polly” star has been a longtime supporter of the wellness brand.
In a July 2022 article posted on Vital Proteins’ blog, the company noted that Aniston was its chief creative officer and used its products daily.
“I have had a passion for health and wellness for years. I know that this topic can be overwhelming so through this campaign, I want to show simple ways to incorporate collagen into your daily life,” the “Murder Mystery” star told the site at the time.
“For me, it’s adding it to my morning coffee and replenishing after a workout, but there is truly an option for everyone.”
Amongst the products listed that Aniston used was the Original Collagen Peptides canister, which have since been recalled.
However, the beloved actress is not the only celebrity who has promoted Vital Proteins.
Kardashian’s wellness company, Poosh, previously collaborated with the health brand to create a matcha-flavored collagen protein.
However, it appears to “Kardashians” star, 44, has not partnered with Vital Proteins for some time since she launched her own supplement brand, Lemme, in September 2022.
Kardashian’s rep did not immediately return Pvnew’s request for comment.
A spokesperson for Vital Proteins tells Pvnew in response to the recall that “health and safety of consumers” is the company’s “highest priority.”
“In April, out of an abundance of caution and our commitment to product quality and consumer safety, we initiated a voluntary recall of a single batch code of Vital Proteins Collagen Peptides — at a limited number of Costco locations — and worked with Costco to both notify their members who may have purchased impacted product, and remove any potentially impacted product from stores,” the rep further explains.
“To date, no injuries have been reported in relation to this recall. No other retailers or e-tailers are affected by this recall, and no other Vital Proteins products are affected.”
