Donna Kelce was more focused on her sons, Travis Kelce and Jason Kelce, facing off in Monday’s Kansas City Chiefs vs. Philadelphia Eagles game than Taylor Swift’s absence.
“I’m here to see my sons, so no, I’m not disappointed she’s not here,” the 71-year-old admitted to the Daily Mail at Arrowhead Stadium in Missouri, where the Eagles defeated the Chiefs 21-17.
“She’s wonderful — and when she comes, it’s great — but for me, it’s about them,” she explained.
That said, the Kelce family matriarch acknowledged that she “understands” why people are so invested in the 12-time Grammy winner’s romance with her youngest son.
“It’s a happy story, and I understand people want that,” she said. “I’m just happy for my son.”
Despite reports that Swift, 33, was slated to attend the game alongside her parents, the singer’s plans shifted when she was forced to postpone her concert in Brazil on Saturday after a fan died from the extreme heat.
Not only did the schedule change result in her missing the primetime game, but a source told Pvnew exclusively that Swift’s holiday plans were also thrown off.
While she was originally supposed to celebrate Thanksgiving in the United States, we reported that the pop star was left “devastated” by the death of her fan Ana Clara Benevides Machado and that the “traumatic” experience took a serious toll on her.
While the comment came off a little shady to some people, Donna told WSJ. that she still berates herself for the lackluster answer and explained that she was simply trying not to divulge too many details about her son’s dating life.
“He’s happier than I’ve seen him in a long time. … God bless him. He shot for the stars!” she said.
Donna later redeemed herself during an interview with “Good Morning America,” calling Swift “a very nice person” who has made Travis, 34, happier than ever.
Although Travis’ life changed overnight after he started seeing Swift in September, his mom has said he will be just “fine” handling the new levels of fame.
“He likes attention,” Donna joked, noting that the tight end is “embracing” the fame “as much” as he can.
“I think the attention is just part of the whole thing. Obviously, [she] is a megastar,” she added.
Travis also spoke about their whirlwind romance and how he has handled the extra scrutiny during the extensive WSJ. interview.
“Obviously I have never dated anyone with that kind of aura about them … I’ve never dealt with it,” he said. “But at the same time, I’m not running away from any of it.”
He noted that if Swift can handle having a “magnifying glass on her every single day” while continuing to “enjoy” life, then so can he.
“When she acts like that, I better not be the one acting all strange,” Travis said.
