Gwyneth Paltrow is a big fan of unusual wellness trends.
The actress-turned-lifestyle guru, 51, recently revealed several uncommon health practices that get her stamp of approval, including ingesting magic mushrooms.
“Like, psilocybin?” Paltrow clarified while playing a game of “Slay or Nay?” with People. “Slay. I’m gonna say slay. I think that psychedelics are going to absolutely be — and currently are — the next, most interesting area in addressing mental health.”
She added, “There’s incredible research coming out about these modalities.”
According to the Alcohol and Drug Foundation, magic mushrooms — whose key ingredient is psilocybin — are naturally derived and consumed for their hallucinogenic effects.
The organization classifies them as psychedelic drugs because they can affect all the senses and alter a person’s thinking, emotions and concept of time.
When it comes to “slugging,” which is the act of lathering one’s face in petroleum jelly for mega hydration, Paltrow is a bit more cautious.
“I’m Switzerland in slugging,” she admitted. “Slugging looks — sticky?”
“But if you’re into it,” she made sure to note, “it can’t hurt you.”
The Goop founder also loves lemon water, sound baths, saunas, cold plunges, melatonin when needed, chlorophyll water and pimple patches.
She argued that lemon water is “alkalizing,” “very good for the body” and does an excellent job of “flush[ing] out” your system.
“Great to drink first thing in the morning,” she explained, going on to gush over sound baths, which she finds to be “really healing,” and saunas, which she enjoys “at least for times a week.”
“There’s great research on hot-cold therapy,” Paltrow shared when asked about cold plunging. “All the longevity people are really into this right now as well.”
The Oscar winner is all for taking melatonin as a sleep aid, noting that it helps her when she’s jet-lagged. She also likes chlorophyll water and its “very appealing” color quite “a lot.”
Though Paltrow likely doesn’t break out, she endorses pimple patches and “the fact that they kind of help eliminate shame around having a pimple, which is a normal thing.”
She said her kids — 19-year-old daughter Apple and 17-year-old son Moses, whom she shares with ex-husband Chris Martin — are really “into” them.
The one “nay” on the list went to face tape, which is said to help prevent wrinkles.
“I don’t think that they work, necessarily,” the “Seven” star explained.
“Although, I remember my mother [Blythe Danner] having these things called Frownies when I was little, and she taped a triangle to her forehead. Actually, she didn’t have a lot of forehead wrinkles, so maybe they work.”
