It’s a Balenciaga battle.
Lauren Sánchez and her friend Kim Kardashian both love a couture moment, and it turns out they ended up going head-to-head while bidding on a six-figure Balenciaga dress during a recent auction.
The high-fashion bidding war was revealed in a new interview with Sánchez for Vogue, with the “Kardashians” star, 43, describing how she and Jeff Bezos’ fiancée, 53, attended a dinner for the Kering Foundation during New York Fashion Week.
“I’m a big auction girl and my strategy was to come in last minute,” Kardashian said.
As the two battled it out for a custom gown from the controversial brand, the Skims founder shouted, “We’ll share it!” adding, “I thought, you wear it once, I’ll wear it once, it’ll be so cute!”
The details of the dress in question are unknown, but it turns out both ladies were winners; according to Vogue, “Kering offered to make two dresses, and both women paid $200,000 and will travel to Paris together for the fitting.”
Kardashian was full of praise for her friend in the profile, telling Vogue that the former news anchor is “such a girl’s girl.”
“Lauren and I are always sending DMs building each other up,” she said. “Every time there’s a look that we like, she’ll say, ‘WOW,’ or, ‘OMG you look amazing.’
In another twinning moment, the future Mrs. Bezos wore a red version of the shimmering Dolce & Gabbana dress Kardashian wore on the designer’s runway last year as she posed for the Vogue spread, and in another pic, she sported a tank top from Kim’s Skims line.
The pals also coordinated in shiny silver looks to rock out at Beyoncé’s Renaissance Tour birthday show in September.
As for Sánchez’s style, she told Vogue that Amal Clooney and Salma Hayek are two women whose wardrobes she looks to for inspo.
“Why? Because they dress for who they are, and that authenticity, I think, comes through,” she said.
The helicopter pilot, who got engaged to the Amazon founder this spring after nearly five years of dating — said she doesn’t dress for her beau.
“I always found it interesting that people say, ‘Well, Lauren, you definitely dress more for men,'” she told Vogue. “I actually dress for myself. But it works for Jeff.”
And she even dropped some names for her dream wedding dress, naming Christian Dior, Dolce & Gabbana and Valentino as her short list, though Sánchez said they haven’t made much headway in planning the event.
Perhaps this “girl’s girl” can team up with Kim for a fashion shoot when they get their new dresses.
