Britney Spears’ fans are convinced her ex-husband Kevin Federline wants to move their two sons — Sean Preston, 17, and Jayden James, 16 — to Hawaii because of the state’s extended child support laws.
In the Aloha State, child support is ordered for children up to the age of 23 if they are enrolled full-time in either an accredited college or university or a vocational or trade school.
“He’s doing this because the courts can force her to pay child support up to the age of 23 in Hawaii,” one Twitter user suggested Thursday, while another echoed, “Kevin desperately wanting to move to Hawaii is definitely child support related.”
Others were suspicious of the timing, noting that the news of the intended relocation came in tandem with Federline being sued by his other minor children’s private Christian college-preparatory school in California for owing more than $15,000 in tuition.
“Kevin Federline gets sued for not paying for the education of his kids and then decides to move to Hawaii where he can apply to get child support until Britney’s boys are 23,” one observant critic pointed out. “It is painfully obvious Britney is still trapped and will be as long as so many people depend on her $$$.”
“He’s exploiting her for money,” someone else argued, as another dissenter added, “They aren’t f–king slick at all.”
Spears previously paid Federline $20,000 a month in child support, but he demanded an increase in May 2018. The exes reached an agreement that August, though the terms remain unclear.
In most states, child support stops once a child turns 18, though sometimes payments can be extended to the age of 19 if the child is unmarried and still attending high school full-time.
Reps for Federline and Spears did not immediately respond to Pvnew’s requests for comment.
Despite fans’ theories about Federline’s motives, Spears’ attorney, Mathew Rosengart, revealed Wednesday that the pop star would “not interfere with and consents to” the former backup dancer moving to Hawaii with their sons.
TMZ claims Federline’s wife, Victoria Prince, got a job there that begins in August. The outlet adds that the family is looking to leave Los Angeles in July after Preston graduates from high school, noting that Jayden will “continue taking classes remotely.”
Spears, 41, and Federline, 45, were married from October 2004 to July 2007. The singer has not seen the boys in more than a year, as she became estranged from them following the termination of her 13-year conservatorship in November 2021.
Federline is dad to four other children: daughters Jordan, 11, and Peyton, 9, whom he shares with Prince, and daughter Kori, 20, and son Kaleb, 18, whom he shares with ex-fiancée Shar Jackson.
The DJ tied the knot with Prince, 40, in August 2013, while Spears wed Sam Asghari in June 2022.
