The 2023 CFDA Fashion Awards had no shortage of stylish theatrics, as well as the industry’s biggest names gracing its red carpet.
Stars like Anne Hathaway, Gwyneth Paltrow, Kim Kardashian and Demi Moore gathered at the Museum of Natural History in New York City Monday night to mark the so-called “Oscars of fashion.”
Hosted by actual Oscar winner Hathaway, the star-studded fête celebrated the brightest talents in the American fashion industry, and featured show-stopping looks from the Hollywood elite.
The event was sponsored by Amazon Fashion for the second year in a row, and featured a slew of A-listers dressed to the nines while rubbing elbows with the who’s who of fashion.
Hathaway, who hosted this year’s ceremony, opted for an all-denim look courtesy of Ralph Lauren.
Her indigo outfit’s bustier and maxi skirt both featured a subtle floral print.
She accessorized with Bulgari jewels, including a statement-making diamond necklace set with a giant sapphire.
“The Devil Wears Prada” actress, who was announced as this year’s host after Sarah Jessica Parker dropped out last week, later changed into a red lace dress with floral embellishments.
Kim Kardashian also brought her fashion A-game to the event, opting for a black leather Chrome Hearts gown covered in the label’s signature crosses.
The dress featured a crystal stone closure in the back, and the mom of four wore her hair in a Pamela Anderson-esque messy updo.
The night’s biggest winner, Gwyneth Paltrow, opted for a quiet luxury look comprised of a black turtleneck bodysuit paired with a matching maxi skirt with a center slit, both from her own G. Label by Goop.
She completed her low-key look with a pair of Jimmy Choo ankle-strap pumps.
Paltrow took home this year’s Innovation Award for Goop, which she founded in 2008.
“It’s very validating,” the Oscar winner said of her win. “It’s such a respected organization, and to be acknowledged and awarded for our contribution, especially in the innovation space, feels very cool.”
The same award went to Kim Kardashian’s shapewear brand, Skims, in 2022.
Elsewhere, designer Thom Browne, the CFDA’s new chairman, was the mastermind behind many of the night’s most striking looks, dressing the likes of Serena Williams, Lil Yachty, Emma Chamberlain and Cynthia Erivo.
Tennis ace and 23-time Grand Slam winner Williams opted for a dramatic Thom Browne gown complete with a long train and massive sleeves.
She topped her look off with David Yurman jewelry.
“Ever since I was a little girl, I’ve used fashion as an outlet to express myself — fashion gave me the confidence to step on the court and own who I was, and where I knew I was going,” she said prior to the event.
Williams said she felt “incredibly honored to be receiving the prestigious Fashion Icon Award from the CFDA.”
Browne credited Williams for “bringing fashion to another world” through her tennis career as well as “always staying true to herself, both on and off the court.”
He called the tennis legend a “true fashion icon” and “one of the most inspiring people in the world.”
Actress Demi Moore rocked a show-stopping silver sequined Carolina Herrera gown, while Emily Ratajkowski showed off her toned legs in a cream-colored Tory Burch minidress.
Fashion designer Vera Wang, who also attended the fête and was honored with the Board of Directors Tribute Award, walked the carpet with Vanessa Hudgens.
“I feel so honored, I can’t explain it. At this stage in my career it’s still wonderful to receive any kind of accolade from your peers,” Wang said of the award. “So I’m really excited. I just hope I can get through my speech.”
Hudgens, for her part, looked effortlessly chic in a Vera Wang ballgown with a thigh-high slit.
Other attendees included Martha Stewart, Mary J. Blige, Nina Dobrev, Karlie Kloss, Winnie Harlow, Nicky Hilton, Naomi Watts, La La Anthony, Lori Harvey, and Shay Mitchell.
