Miley Cyrus stars on the cover of British Vogue’s June issue, and opened up about her most memorable fashion moments across her nearly two-decade career.
One recent memory was her New Year’s Eve wardrobe malfunction on Dec. 31, 2001 when her metal mesh top suddenly snapped and nearly fell off.
“I’m still in the most clothes that I’ve ever worn on stage,” she joked while in the middle of performing “Party in the USA” and doing a quick outfit change to cover up.
“Akna, I’m not going to call you out, because it actually ended up being incredible press for your girl,” Cyrus said directly to the brand behind the look in the Youtube video.
“This outfit did not stay on for very long because the chain in the back broke,” Miley said about her barely-there crop top.
“But what is a live TV performance with everything going right? Live TV is a tightrope walk. They wanna see you dangle, but they don’t want to see you fall,” the “Flowers” singer continued.
Cyrus also said the special was billed as a “wild” and unpredictable night between herself and Pete Davidson, but joked that compared to the “Saturday Night Live” alum, she’s “pretty classy.”
However she rejoiced that the mishap sent ratings “skyrocketing.”
Luckily, the former Disney Channel star, 30, said godmother Dolly Parton imparted a quippy piece of advice: “Show your boobs and get renewed.”
And indeed the statement proved true as “Miley’s New Year’s Eve” was picked up again to ring in 2023, this time sporting matching leopard looks with Parton herself.
