Even when she’s offscreen, Dame Helen Mirren can’t help but bring the drama.
The 77-year-old Oscar winner matched her hair to her Del Core gown on the Cannes Film Festival 2023 red carpet Monday, arriving at the event’s opening ceremony with a vibrant bright blue ‘do — a striking departure from her usual silver strands.
Mirren accessorized with diamond jewelry, Sole Bliss heels ($325) and a paper fan with the hashtag #WorthIt emblazoned across the folds, the latter a nod to her role as a L’Oréal Paris ambassador.
She finished her pastel ensemble with a mani-pedi in the same powder blue hue.
Mirren’s stylist, Lee Harris, shared with Pvnew Style that the gown was “custom made for her” by Daniel Del Core and inspired by by a yellow skirt the designer created for his spring collection.
“I thought [the skirt] was absolutely beautiful and he was so kind to reinterpret it for us in a gown in this lovely shade of periwinkle blue — a color we thought would be particularly flattering on Dame Helen,” Harris tells Pvnew Style exclusively.
“It is a rather classic design, and I think the blue hair really adds a touch of punk modernity that keeps it all very au courant.”
The Emmy-winning costume designer added, “Cannes is one of those times when it is OK to have some fun and be dramatic, so I think this whole look really sums up the joy that Dame Helen likes to bring to the red carpet.”
