Rachel Bilson is getting candid about her past pregnancy losses in honor of National Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month.
During Monday’s episode of her “Broad Ideas” podcast, the 42-year-old actress revealed she suffered several miscarriages before welcoming her daughter in 2014.
“I’ve had miscarriages so I’ve had losses,” she said during her interview with author Libby Weintraub.
“Never carried,” Bilson noted. “They were early on.”
“The O.C.” alum opened up about the hard topic while chatting with Weintraub about her book “She Was Born: Words on Loss and Liberation,” which details the author’s traumatic experience with stillbirth.
Bilson then pointed out how important it is for pregnant women to sometimes “pivot” when it comes to the birthing process.
“It’s one of the biggest things I talk about with pregnancy and having babies,” she explained.
“With birth, I even remember going into it being like, ‘I’m open to whatever,’” Bilson told listeners. “Like do I want an epidural? No! I’d love to try without it but if I need it will I take it? F—k yes I will.”
“I always knew I was going to go to the hospital because it felt safer for me but I was open to anything,” she continued noting that it is important to start “relinquishing control” during the planning process.
Bilson started her podcast last year and often invites guests on to talk about taboo topics such as infertility, postpartum depression, female sex drive and more.
The “Hart of Dixie” alum welcomed daughter Briar Rose, now 8, with ex Hayden Christensen in 2014.
However, the pair, who were together for nearly 10 years, announced their split three years later. Despite things fizzling out between Bilson and Christensen, they have since put their issues aside in order to co-parent their daughter.
Although Bilson has proved to be the ultimate girl mom — even taking her daughter and her friends to Taylor Swift’s Eras Concert over the summer — the actress previously opened up about the difficulties of dating as a single mom.
“I was talking to this guy a few months back. Anytime I would bring my daughter up, [he] would never pursue the question or ask more about her,” Bilson said on Nick Viall’s “Viall Files” podcast in 2019.
“It was a red flag because anyone that you’re going to get involved with, if you have a kid, they have to be all about the kid.”
Bilson, who described Briar as her “world,” noted that she isn’t willing to put up with anyone that shows no “interest” in her mini-me.
