Jana Kramer claims her ex-husband, Mike Caussin, told her he “never really loved” her as they were in the midst of splitting up.
In her new memoir, “The Next Chapter,” Kramer recalled meeting with Caussin at their home to discuss child custody and the financial details of their divorce.
After reaching an agreement, Kramer wrote that the NFL star decided to send a jarring blow to his soon-to-be ex-wife.
“As he was leaving, My Ex said, ‘You know, I never really loved you,'” Kramer wrote, per People.
“He wanted to hurt me, and news flash, it did. I had taken massive steps away from him and toward a new future in the last few weeks, but hearing those words confirmed that little voice in my head that had been telling me that everything he did and said in our marriage was because he didn’t love me.”
Kramer wrote, “That I had made it all up, that our marriage was just a great lie. I felt deep sadness for what we both had lost.”
The country music singer — who married the tight end in 2015 — has extensively spoken about her problematic marriage with Caussin in the past.
Kramer, 39, claimed in October 2022 that the athlete had cheated on her with “more” than 13 women during their time together.
In their divorce filing — which listed their separation date as April 20, 2021 — Kramer cited the cause of separation as “inappropriate marital conduct, irreconcilable differences and adultery.”
The records show that they both entered into a post-nuptial agreement, which Kramer writes in her latest book came about after the first time Caussin, 36, was caught cheating.
Kramer wrote that Caussin planned to “fight the post-nup” in an attempt to get “half” of their financial belongings upon divorce.
Reacting to his demand for half, Kramer wrote, “I choked. I actually was at a loss for words and spun around to him like he was the devil incarnate.”
Ultimately, Kramer paid Caussin a total of $592,400 in the divorce settlement while she kept the home.
The two also agreed not to pay any alimony and to pay their own attorney fees with Kramer covering any additional legal fees, according to documents obtained by People.
As for their children — Jolie Rae, 7, and Jace, 4 — Kramer was granted the majority of custody. She also later revealed that she agreed to pay Caussin child support for his time with the kids.
Recalling the night Caussin and Kramer — who is currently expecting a child with fiancé Allan Russell — met to discuss how they would handle the split, Kramer wrote that “time” with her children was her highest priority.
“This is what it was going to come down to: either getting more time with the kids or getting more money,” Kramer wrote, adding, “I wanted more time with the kids, and he knew that.”
“My Ex and I are both fighters, and both of us would’ve gone down swinging, but that night we acted like adults and did what was best for the family.”
“The Next Chapter: Making Peace with Hard Memories, Finding Hope All Around Me, and Clearing Space for Good Things to Come” hit the shelves Tuesday.
