Just call her Jane the Hurtin’.
Gina Rodriguez is focusing on her recovery after injuring herself while giving birth to her newborn son, Charlie.
“Childbirth is hard! After giving birth, my hip was badly hurt during delivery,” Rodriguez, 38, told Us Weekly on Tuesday while promoting her partnership with Orangetheory Fitness.
The “Jane the Virgin” alum has learned how to be gentle on her postpartum body so she can heal and get stronger.
“Getting back into a fitness routine has helped me recover and better understand how to live in my new post-baby body,” she said. “But, I make sure not to push myself. I make sure to slowly ease into this new and more profound life-giving body.”
Despite the difficulties in the delivery room, she and her husband, Joe LoCicero, have been reveling in their lives as new parents.
“It’s been family, memories, it’s been slow and quiet. It’s been enjoying every new development as my child grows and smiles, laughs and tries to roll over,” she told the outlet. “It’s been sitting in gratitude for this new life that has shown me that I am now whole.
“It’s been recovering and healing. Moving and sitting still. It’s been experiencing the totality of every life emotion.”
The “Not Dead Yet” star admitted that becoming a mom has been a “humbling” experience as well.
“There is no actual rule book when it comes to motherhood. I’ve realized it’s a unique journey that is constantly changing as you go,” she said, adding that parenting is all about “relearning.”
She has also had to learn how to accept her changing body after giving birth.
“Like most new moms, my body has changed postpartum, and I am learning to love every part of this life-giving body,” Rodriguez said. “I try to remind myself just how incredible this body is, it’s a miracle and I am so grateful to it. It gave life to an amazing baby boy!
She added that going to the gym allows for “me-time,” adding that power-walking on the treadmill and practicing yoga are her go-to workouts.
“I make sure to go at my own pace and give myself grace. Meet my body where it is at right now,” she said. “And let’s be real, caring for a newborn is a workout in and of itself.”
Rodriguez announced that she and LoCicero, 36, were expecting their first child on her 38th birthday last July.
In March, the actress was spotted for the first time stepping out with her newborn strapped to her chest, confirming their baby’s arrival.
The following month, she gave a first look at their son and revealed his name in an Instagram post, though she kept her bundle of joy’s face hidden.
Rodriguez and LoCicero have been together since 2016 and got engaged two years later. They tied the knot in May 2019.
Last week, the couple celebrated four years of marriage with a shoutout to little Charlie.
“Happy Anniversary, my sweet love,” Rodriguez wrote on Instagram. “From our love came this little scrumptious baby boy ❤️ You and Charlie are my whole universe. #4years.”
