Kim Kardashian’s “American Horror Story” casting may be controversial, but she’s up to the challenge.
The reality star defended her first major acting role while speaking to PvNew at Monday’s 2023 Met Gala in New York City.
“We start shooting my stuff at the end of this month,” she revealed. “But production has already started, and I’m so excited.
“It’s really fun to step outside of your comfort zone and try something new and grow. I’m so excited for the experience.”
Kardashian, 42, clarified that she is “of course” taking acting lessons to prepare for Season 12 of the anthology series.
“It’s a challenge,” the “Kardashians” star, who wore pearls and a corset designed by Schiaparelli on the red carpet, reiterated. “I like to challenge myself.”
After news broke last month that Kardashian was joining the show, Patti LuPone and more stars took umbrage.
“I don’t [like it],” the Broadway legend, 74, said during a recent “Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen” appearance, accusing Kardashian of taking roles from seasoned actors.
“Excuse me, excuse me, Kim. You know, what are you doing with your life? Don’t get on the stage, Mrs. Worthington,” LuPone said in reference to English composer Noël Coward’s 1935 song “Mrs. Worthington” about momagers.
Later that same month, Sharon Stone chimed in, writing in an Instagram comment that actors have “studied” and “suffered” for their work.
“It may not be brain surgery but we do treasure our art,” the “Basic Instinct” star, 65, wrote. “Ten thousand hours; it’s a thing.”
“AHS” co-creator Ryan Murphy, however, has only expressed excitement to have Kardashian on board.
“Kim is among the biggest and brightest television stars in the world and we are thrilled to welcome her to the ‘AHS’ family,” the writer, 57, gushed to the Hollywood Reporter.
“[Showrunner and writer] Halley Feiffer has written a fun, stylish and ultimately terrifying role especially for Kim,” he continued. “This season is ambitious and unlike anything we have ever done.”
Kardashian, who has previously only acted in minor roles, posted a teaser trailer via Instagram at the time. She captioned the social media upload with eyeball and blood emojis.
The anthology’s upcoming installment, titled “Delicate,” is based on Danielle Valentine’s novel “Delicate Condition.”
