Roll out the red carpet: Met Gala 2023 is almost here.
Set for Monday, May 1, this year’s star-studded ball will mark the opening of the Costume Institute’s new exhibition, “Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty.”
As such, celebrity guests have been asked to dress “in honor of Karl” — meaning we can likely expect to see special looks from throughout the late design legend’s six-decade career make their way up the Met steps on some big names.
And while awards season may deliver plenty of major style moments each year, nothing compares to the full-on fashion feast provided by Vogue’s most prestigious party.
Below, everything we know about this year’s Met Gala.
When is the Met Gala 2023?
Fashion’s biggest night traditionally takes place on the first Monday in May; this year’s will be on Monday, May 1.
Where is the Met Gala held?
The fancy fête is held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City, and raises money for its Costume Institute.
What is the Met Gala 2023 theme?
This year’s theme is “Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty,” based on the new Costume Institute exhibition exploring the work of the iconic designer.
Lagerfeld, who died in 2019 at the age of 85, spent decades creating clothes for Balmain, Patou, Chloé, Fendi and Chanel in addition to his own namesake label.
How can I watch this year’s Met Gala?
Vogue’s Met Gala red carpet livestream will kick off at 6:30 p.m. ET on May 1; fans can follow all the action on Vogue, as well as on the fashion bible’s Instagram, Facebook and Twitter.
La La Anthony, Derek Blasberg, Chloe Fineman and Emma Chamberlain are co-hosting the broadcast.
Who is invited to the Met Gala?
Vogue is notoriously secretive about its guest list for the gala, but Pvnew revealed Kim Kardashian made the cut along with at least one of her superstar siblings, despite earlier reports that she and her famous family might not be invited this year.
The Post also confirmed Lagerfeld’s beloved cat, Choupette, got her paws on an invite; “It’s an event in honor of the legacy of Karl, and Choupette is obviously a central part of the legacy,” the fluffy feline’s agent told us.
Considering the Met Gala regularly draws A-listers like Rihanna, Billie Eilish, Beyoncé, Lady Gaga and Taylor Swift, expect plenty of other major names on the carpet.
Who won’t be attending?
We know one star who’ll be absent on the big night: “Creed III” actor Jonathan Majors, who was arrested on domestic violence charges in March.
As reported by Deadline, Majors was originally planning to attend with Valentino, but he and the house “mutually agreed” to scrap those plans amid his abuse allegations. Majors’ attorney has repeatedly denied he’s responsible for any wrongdoing.
Additionally, while celebrities typically attend the gala as guests of a particular brand, others have to pay for their tickets — and sources told Pvnew some museum donors might opt out this year, as the ticket price has been raised from $30,000 to a staggering $50,000 per person.
“These people are already donating so much, to then ask for that amount is a lot,” the insider said.
What is the dress code?
In keeping with this year’s theme, attendees have been asked to dress “in honor of Karl.”
That could translate into stars selecting Lagerfeld-designed looks from years past, or even drawing inspiration from the designer’s own personal style; expect to see plenty of black-and-white suiting, leather gloves and perhaps even a powdered ponytail or two.
Who’s hosting the Met Gala 2023?
Penélope Cruz, Michaela Coel, Roger Federer and Dua Lipa will serve as this year’s celebrity co-chairs alongside Vogue’s Anna Wintour, who’s overseen the event since 1995.
