Fernando Alonso, the Anti-Hero of the Formula 1 grid, has hilariously been linked to pop star, Taylor Swift.
Rumors that the pair — who are both recently single — were secretly dating took the internet by storm after an anonymous email was published by gossip Instagram account, Deuxmoi.
Many fans believe the speculation to be completely baseless, as the blind item was flagged by Deuxmoi as “entertainment” only.
“A couple of Spanish magazines have been posting about TS and Spanish F1 driver Fernando Alonso,” the anonymous note, shared on Instagram Stories last week, read.
“According to them, the couple has been seeing each other for a week now. Nothing serious tho since they are both recently single.”
Here’s everything you need to know about the F1 driver.
Alonso is a two-time Formula 1 world champion
The Spanish driver has had a tumultuous career in F1.
He made his debut with Minardi in 2001 before joining Renault as a test driver the following year.
Widely regarded as one of the greatest drivers of all time, Alonso went on to win the World Drivers’ Championship in 2005 and 2006.
However, he struggled to find success when he joined Ferrari, and subsequently McLaren.
After two years away from the sport, Alonso re-joined the grid as an Alpine driver in 2021 and 2022.
He currently drives for Aston Martin and scored his 100th podium when he finished third at the 2023 Saudi Arabian Grand Prix.
He retired — and un-retired — from the sport
Much like Tom Brady, Alonso has famously returned from retirement.
After two years away from the sport, Alonso made a comeback in 2021, citing the COVID-19 pandemic as one of the factors in his decision.
“In [my] time away from Formula 1, we had the pandemic,” Alonso told reporters in 2022.
“All the other series, to be honest, were hit quite badly, in terms of the sponsors, manufacturers, things like that.
“Formula 1 [was] still quite healthy, so I thought, in that moment, the biggest challenge was to come back in Formula 1 and try to do well.
In his time away from F1, the Spaniard found success in various other series: he won the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2018 and 2019 with Toyota, along with the FIA World Endurance Championship in the same years.
Alonso also took home the top prize in the 24 Hours of Daytona with Wayne Taylor Racing in 2019.
Did he address Taylor Swift dating rumors?
Alonso shared a short TikTok video on April 24, 2023, set to the tune of Swift’s hit song “Karma.”
In the clip, he was seen scrolling on his phone before looking at the camera and winking.
“Race week era,” he captioned the post, seemingly alluding to the “All Too Well” singer’s ongoing “Eras Tour.”
He also referenced the Grammy winner’s song “22” when he commented, “Feeling 33.”
When reporters asked Alonso to elaborate on the dating rumors ahead of the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, he coyly responded, “I don’t comment on anything.”
Swift, whose only connection to F1 was performing at the 2016 United States Grand Prix, is single after splitting from her boyfriend of six years, Joe Alwyn.
Who else has Alonso dated?
The Aston Martin driver most recently dated journalist Andrea Schlager until they split in April 2023.
“We have been lucky enough to share a fantastic time together, and it will continue to be so, but on a different form of affection,” Alonso shared in an Instagram post.
“As you have probably seen, we have continued working on and off track on various projects together also during this time, and we will keep doing so with deep love and respect for each other,” the 32-time Grand Prix winner added.
Alonso was previously married to singer Raquel Del Rosario, whom he met in 2005.
The couple tied the knot in 2006 but called it quits five years later.
After his divorce, Alonso was linked to a string of women, including Miss Switzerland runner-up Xenia Tchoumitcheva and Russian model Dasha Kapustina.
He was briefly engaged to journalist Lara Alvarez and was also believed to have romanced Italian model Linda Morselli.
