Dorit Kemsley’s slightly darker ‘do is indicative of a new era.
“I just felt like I needed change,” the now-brunette “Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” star, 46, told Pvnew Style at her Homeless Not Toothless Hollywood Gala Saturday night.
“Being a blonde, it’s very high-maintenance,” she said of her previous upkeep before joking, “And I’m so high-maintenance as it is, I just feel like my hair should not be as high-maintenance!”
The Beverly Beach by Dorit designer, known for her impeccable fashion sense, said that her “honey bronde” locks have inspired her to “explore other elements” of her style.
“My style is representative of my mood and how I’m feeling, truly. I dress myself,” said Kemsley, who seldom works with a stylist and prefers to source garments herself.
“I don’t know why I take this upon myself and create more work for myself, but I’m so particular about it,” she elaborated. “So, I think the brown hair for me … I wanted something fresh, I wanted something different and it felt like, ‘You know what? It’s about time.’”
The sartorial-minded Bravolebrity decided to switch up her look as cameras began rolling for “RHOBH” Season 13 this winter. once fans caught a glimpse of Kemsley’s brown tresses pulled back in a high ponytail, social media comparisons to Ariana Grande came flooding in.
“Of course I was flattered. I mean, who wouldn’t be?” Kemsley said, adding with a chuckle, “And since we’re so close in age, I can understand how people would actually compare us!”
However, she clarified that the 29-year-old pop superstar wasn’t on her mind when celeb colorist Sergio Garcia painted her mane.
“I hate to say no because she’s so adorable,” Kemsley said. “But no.”
Kemsley wore her hair in a half-up, half-down style at her Homeless Not Toothless charity event, complementing the slinky black gown she rocked on the red carpet.
The lavish affair, held at Los Angeles’ Beverly Hilton, was meant to raise funds for veterans, the homeless, foster youth and low-income persons in LA to receive quality dental care.
“I had a few goals. One was to create a beautiful night and make sure that everybody in the room has a great time,” Kemsley said before the evening kicked off.
“And I think we definitely will have accomplished that and I think we’ll also raise a lot of money tonight.”
Paula Abdul was on hand to introduce the silent auction and special guest performer, ’80s dance diva Taylor Dayne, with Kemsley’s Homeless Not Toothless co-board members Sharon Stone and William H. Macy also present.
The party was filmed for “Beverly Hills” Season 13, which has yet to receive a premiere date. The cast — including Kemsley, Crystal Kung Minkoff, Kyle Richards, Erika Jayne, Sutton Stracke, Garcelle Beauvais and newbie Annemarie Wiley — were all in attendance.
