Federal prosecutors are preparing to bring Sean “Diddy” Combs’ accusers in front of a grand jury, indicating that the US Justice Department is moving toward seeking an indictment against the music mogul, according to a new report.
Witnesses have been notified by investigators that they could be called to testify in front of a federal grand jury in New York City, a source told CNN Wednesday.
The Bad Boy Records founder has been hit with eight civil lawsuits, seven of which have accused him of sexual assault. His longtime on-again, off-again girlfriend Cassie Ventura was the first to accuse him of rape and repeated physical abuse in a disturbing lawsuit filed in November 2023.
A second source told CNN that investigators are being thorough and taking their time to ensure that an indictment, should there be one, is “bulletproof.”
A spokesperson for the Homeland Security Investigations agency (HSI) declined to comment to CNN on the existence of a grand jury, but noted the investigation remains ongoing. Combs’ attorney didn’t immediately return Page Six’s request for comment.
The former pair settled out of court within one day, but a couple of weeks ago horrific surveillance footage of Combs violently beating Ventura in a hotel hallway in 2016 leaked.

In the video, the “M & U” singer is seen exiting a hotel room with several bags, walking quickly to the elevators. She is wearing a black hoodie over her head, jeans and sneakers. Shortly after, Combs appears in nothing but a towel running toward Ventura. He grabs her by the neck before kicking her while she lay on the floor.
“Thank you for all the love and support from my family, friends, strangers and those I have yet to meet,” the R&B performer wrote via Instagram. “The outpouring of love has created a place for my younger self to settle and feel safe now, but this is only the beginning.”
She continued, “Domestic violence is THE issue. It broke me down to someone I never thought I would become.”
Cassie, 37, told her fans and followers that she remains on a “healing journey.”
Combs, 54, issued an apology video days after the horrendous footage went viral, calling the incident the one of the “darkest times” of his life.
“I was f—ked up. I mean, I hit rock bottom, but I make no excuses,” the rapper shared on social media.
“My behavior on that video is inexcusable. I take full responsibility for my actions in that video. I’m disgusted.”
However, prior to the surveillance footage, Combs vehemently denied Ventura’s allegations of abuse and rape, calling them “offensive and outrageous.”
The Department of Homeland Security raided Combs’ Los Angeles and Miami estates in March in connections to allegations of sex trafficking, money laundering and illegal drugs.
